  • Applying 3D Engineering Drawing Techniques To Web App Diagrams. Presentation: Berlin 2015

    JS Conf EU, Berlin, 2015

Information Technology diagrams fall into the trap of over simplifying complexity. Diagrams which are meant to represent 1,000s or even 10,000s of hours of multidisciplinary IT implementation effort is reduced to sticks-and-clouds architecture drawings, coarse wire frames and/or detailed UI mockups or screenshots.

What’s missing from these representations ? Usually a lot - like code volume, 3rd party dependencies, operating environments, delivery processes, people/roles and so much more.…

Usually a lot - like code volume, 3rd party dependencies, operating environments, delivery processes, people/roles and so much more. This talk presents a new vision of technology diagrams which borrows from 3D structural engineering and isometric projection drawing techniques to provide a better perspective of the multi dimensional nature of information technology projects.

Simplified versions of this style of diagraming web/information technology can be seen, today, at the speaker’s site stackynotes.com but diagrams with much more depth and breadth are explored in this conference talk. The aim of this innovative 3D visualization of IT systems is to improve all aspects of IT planning and implementation. From costing to implementation to user satisfaction, all stakeholders benefit from having a common useful visualization of the size, scope, scale of IT projects.
