Curation + Structure + Flow Three pillars of editing. My own formulation, and I use it constantly. It applies at every level: a commercial, a scene, a feature film, a series season, a social posting, a character arc, a theme, a shot, a sound effect, a splice. It’s like a fractal! Every edit decision fits within the larger picture, and these three pillars have worked well for me in navigating the editorial process. Also, much as I love AI (and I love AI on a daily basis), AI doesn't do these three things very well: Curation, Structure, Flow. On the other hand, using AI to create more options in post means more curating. And then AI elements can absolutely elevate structure and flow. Comment with a slightly smiling face if you disagree! Most creative pros doing the kind of work I do are using Adobe apps like InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop. The inclusion of AI in their products are transforming tools I have relied on for several decades to do specific tasks. I suspect that other graphic designers are thinking about possibly "cutting the cord" with Adobe in the same way they may have migrated from a cable provider. Part of the interest in other products is economic and getting off the subscription model (paying rent on apps they never use), and part of that interest may be simply removing ourselves from an ecosystem of reliance on a brand name that is mining our information the same way Amazon mines its customers. We're being groomed to accept the direction Adobe is taking, though our software tasks and needs remain pretty much the same as in decades past. So I purchased a trio of Affinity products for not much more than I pay each month for my Adobe subscription, and will test the apps out on projects I do each year. There is a learning curve ahead of me getting comfortable with a different user interface and tools that behave differently. I will post some stories here on how I work using Adobe software, and how I will work differently to get the same results with Affinity apps. I am not pulling the plug on Adobe, but assessing alternative tools at this point.

Working in post production can often feel like a whirlwind of creativity, collaboration, and chaos. Each project is unique, presenting its own set of challenges and triumphs. Here are some key takeaways that might resonate with fellow industry professionals: Communication is Key: Clear communication among team members is paramount. Whether it's conveying creative feedback or understanding client needs, open dialogues prevent misunderstandings and keep everyone on the same page.
