These credits provide financial incentives to repurpose neglected structures, breathing new life into vacant buildings left behind due to the pandemic. Eligible properties over 15 years old or with 50%+ vacancy for five years could receive a 30% credit of the conversion cost, helping developers to make it possible to repurpose buildings for new ways people want to experience downtown. The Minneapolis Renaissance Coalition recognizes the importance of leveraging such incentives to advance its mission of creating a more vibrant, interconnected, and sustainable downtown. By supporting policies like the CUB tax credit, the coalition aims to activate underutilized spaces, preserve the city's architectural legacy, and drive economic growth. Moreover, these credits can attract more people to downtown Minneapolis, fostering increased foot traffic, community engagement, and a sense of place. As Minneapolis @Mayor Jacob Frey and @Downtown Council President Adam Duininck affirm, the CUB tax credit has the potential to transform downtown Minneapolis, making it a more attractive destination for residents, businesses, and visitors alike. Highlights include: 📈 Current market conditions in Greater Minnesota make housing transactions tough. 🏘️ Tight markets and rising costs are leading to rent increases. 🚧 Construction challenges are easing or stabilizing. To better understand Greater Minnesota’s housing markets, researchers interviewed 18 firms with a stake in the multifamily housing business and conducted listening sessions with other housing operators.
