The Difference Between Gross Burn Rate vs. Net Burn Rate:  Gross burn rate reflects the total cash outflow. Yes, this means all the expenses you incur! Net burn rate factors in revenue, providing a clearer picture of financial health. These two forms of Burn Rate can impact how you view your Runway. A Runway that uses the Gross Burn Rate will give you a clear-cut picture of how much time you have before you run out of funding without making any money. Net Burn Rate can increase this timeline as these companies start generating revenue, allowing themselves a longer Runway. Preparing for a professional exam? Here are the top 5 tips from the MSL Business School on how to easily achieve a pass mark in your next professional exam. 1️⃣ Understand the Exam Structure: Familiarize yourself with the format, content, and timing of the exam. Review past exam papers and syllabus guidelines to gain insights into the types of questions and topics that may be covered. How many hours will you have on exam day? How many questions will the paper have? Will there be a mix of computational and written questions, or will it be purely computational or purely written? 2️⃣ Create a Study Plan: Develop a structured study plan that allocates sufficient time for reviewing each topic and practicing past exam questions under exam conditions. It is one thing to practice past exam questions; it is another to practice those questions under exam conditions. The latter is always better. Additionally, break down your study sessions into manageable chunks and set specific goals to track your progress. 3️⃣ Focus on Conceptual Understanding: Instead of rote memorization, focus on understanding the underlying concepts and principles. This will help you apply your knowledge to different scenarios and adapt to unfamiliar questions during the exam. If you truly have a conceptual understanding, even for the toughest questions, you should still be able to provide some points to earn marks. 4️⃣ Practice Time Management: As mentioned under point 2 above, practice answering exam questions under timed conditions to improve your speed and efficiency. Allocate appropriate time to each question based on its weighting and difficulty level, and avoid spending too much time on any single question. For a 3-hour paper with 100 marks up for grabs, you should not spend more than 1.8 minutes to secure each mark. That translates to a maximum of 36 minutes for each 20-mark question, for example. From our experience, poor time management on exam day is one of the primary reasons for failing a professional exam. 5️⃣ Stay Calm and Confident: On the day of the exam, stay calm and confident in your preparation. Arrive early, get a good night's sleep, and eat a balanced meal to fuel your brain. Trust in your abilities and approach each question methodically, focusing on accuracy and clarity in your responses. Last night, I had the honor (and mild panic attack) of being on a Q&A panel at an Antler event for their investors. For the uninitiated, Antler is a global venture capital firm and one of Tax Nuggets Academy's key investors. Picture this: a room full of people scrutinizing where their cash is flowing, hoping to see their investments turn into unicorns. No pressure, right? As the CEO of a startup, I'm constantly juggling many responsibilities and wearing different hats. We've been in company-building mode for almost a year now, and my brain has been stuck on short-term goals like sales targets. Switching gears to talk to investors instead of customers is like trying to flip a pancake mid-air and not letting it splatter on the floor. It's not exactly a walk in the park, for me anyway. But hey, it was worth it. Sometimes you need to swap hats, step back, and take a 30,000-foot view of your progress. Reflecting on what we’ve achieved in about two years since pre-seed funding is like looking at your reflection after a sweaty gym session—exhausting but rewarding: • Hit a $1M ARR run rate (cue the confetti!) • 2K paying customers including professionals from Big 4 firms and the ATO • Collaborations with powerhouses like MYOB, BGL and The Access Group • Raised a SAFE round of $700k (and no, SAFE doesn’t mean “Secure as Flipping Eggs" 😆, it's Simple Agreement for Equity) Huge thanks to Antler for the invite and the opportunity to strut our stuff last night. #AlwaysBePitching #CEOChronicles #BuildInPublic #StartupLife

A trick question once asked in Bain consulting on IRR.🎯 Q. In IRR you are saying that my NPV is zero, means for all the future cash flow I am paying upfront. Then why should I even get into something like this?🤯 A. I discussed this during interview preparation sessions with multiple students and this got them confused.🤷‍♂️ The reason for this is that we see WACC as just a formula, but in realty its way more than its mathematical definition.🧏 IRR is a rate used to discount cash flows making Net NPV = 0, mostly greater than your wacc.😵‍💫 Lets see one simple example💁 ✅️ Assume for a business expected to generate 100 rupees next year you gave them 83 rupees to buy that today ✅️ Your IRR is 20%. But see what is happening, you have earned 20% on your investment. ✅️ Its not visible directly but if you see then at upfront, you paid less which resulted in 20% returns, which is amazing even if your net NPV is zero. P.S. Mathematical formulae are secondary and makes no sense if dont understand definitions at core level.🤓 #education #finance #careers #investing
