Senator Ted Cruz supports the oil and gas industry, while his challenger Colin Allred does not. Based on voting records, Sen. Cruz received a score of 96% on the American Energy Alliance's 2024 American Energy Scorecard, while Rep. Allred received a low score of 25%. Sen. Cruz is an "Energy Champion" while Rep. Allred is a green champion. "Senator Cruz has consistently proven himself to be a steadfast champion of American energy independence, standing firm against policies that harm our energy sector and drive up costs for Texas families and businesses alike. This includes his introduction of legislation to repeal the Biden-Harris Administration’s natural gas tax, which would particularly harm Texas by undermining producers in the Permian Basin and across the state." Thomas Pyle, President of the AEA, wrote in a release endorsing Cruz. When Oil and Gas CEOs Sit Down to Talk Is a Time to Listen  Headline speakers at industry events are the forever premium attraction to draw an audience. Who doesn’t want to hear from the nation’s top oil and gas CEOs sharing their company stories and foresight? But aside from those presentations largely scripted, one-on-one interviews can offer other takeaway gems when energy leaders sit down to address questions. And while we can’t share them all, Reese Energy Consulting today is following the latest two Q&As in case you missed them. They’re worth the read. Alan Armstrong, president and CEO of Tulsa-based pipeline giant Williams, is a familiar figure on the speaker circuit with a whole lot to say about natural gas. He preaches and teaches about the evolving role natural gas plays in today’s energy spectrum and how Williams—a company now more than a century old—continues to rise like cream at the top. In a recent Q&A with McKinsey & Company, Armstrong shared WMB’s acquisition strategy following its recent series of pipeline, gathering and processing, and storage pick-ups that add to its sprawling infrastructure network, saying “Doing deals just to get bigger is a failed strategy.” Maybe not so much for Houston-based E&P Chord Energy, whose February acquisition of Enerplus has been wet-kissed the largest operator in the Williston and now valued at $11 billion. In a Hart Energy interview with Chord’s Danny Brown, the CEO reveals “Getting bigger isn’t always better but there’s more ways to be better if you’re bigger.” Now supersized in the Bakken, Chord operates 1.3 million net acres, reported 168.4 MBOED in 1Q, and not at all entertaining an acquisition trip out of the basin it knows best. EIA Estimates Significant Drop in U.S. Natural Gas Venting and Flaring Based on preliminary data, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) estimates the annual reported volume of natural gas vented or flared in the United States has declined to an estimated 0.5% of gross withdrawals in 2023. This would be the lowest rate recorded in 18 years. Here's why this is a positive development: • Reduces methane emissions: Methane is a potent greenhouse gas, and reducing its release helps combat climate change. • Conserves a valuable energy resource: Capturing natural gas instead of flaring or venting it allows for its productive use. • Improves air quality: Venting and flaring contribute to air pollution, so reducing these practices leads to cleaner air. • Economic benefits: Captured natural gas can generate revenue for companies, states, and landowners. IPAA chairman Steven H. Pruett was one of seven executives who talked with Hart Energy for a story on the upcoming elections, including perspective on outcomes and challenges for producers that could result from the outcome. "The oil and gas industry just needs a pragmatic, stable regulatory environment to continue producing and processing clean, affordable natural gas and petroleum products for our citizens and our allies across the globe," said Pruett. "For challenges, a Harris-Walz administration will permanently threaten the existence of the small operator in the United States, impacting almost 1 MMboe/d of production and countless jobs and tax revenue to localities. "The other threat to independents and royalty owners is the Democrats’ plans to eliminate intangible drilling cost deductions and percentage depletion, along with raising corporate and individual tax rates. In September, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission held scoping sessions on the DeLa Express Pipeline Project in Texas and Louisiana. The scoping sessions were an opportunity to collect public comments about the project and how the proposed project may affect you, your land, or your community. LNG: A Critical Transition Fuel bridging to a more Sustainable Future. As we navigate the challenges of 2024, the U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) export sector faces uncertainty, especially following recent court decisions. However, LNG remains a vital transitional fuel in the movement toward sustainable energy. For examole, transitioning from coal and high-emission fuels is essential for reducing carbon emissions and slowing climate change. LNG offers a practical alternative, potentially cutting CO₂ emissions by up to 69% when replacing coal-fired power plants, all while ensuring reliable energy supply. In addition, advances in gas turbine technology continue with some projections that energy efficiencies above 80% may be achievable. By integrating LNG into a steuctured energy strategy, we can reduce reliance on more polluting fuels, foster a healthier environment, and begin to transition to a more sustainable future. Prioritizing LNG initiatives and natural gas infrastructure will pave the way for a thriving energy landscape that benefits our people, our planet, and the economy.
