A great post from Cindy Gallop on why the make-up and governance of any AI Council or SteerCo must be carefully considered.. ..not just gender and ethnic representation but also representing different perspectives that combine both commercial, the customer and ethics.. ..shockingly and somewhat unsurprisingly Meta has got it wrong with an all white male crew. The future of AI can not be white and male - Zuck, Musk, Besos with their 💵’s are controlling the development right now.. ..thankfully Satya of Microsoft brings greater diversity and also the importance of empathy. It will be crucial to consider the origination of LLM’s and bias as businesses make decisions about which GenAi platforms to back and teach models on the back of their tech. It’s not just about whether your data is being used to inform their model, it’s whether the leadership and engineering team are representative of our society today.. #AI #GenAI

We see a lot of media mix modeling RFPs here at Recast. Unfortunately, a lot of them put a ton of emphasis on things that don’t actually matter that much to rolling out a successful MMM practice. Every MMM RFP should focus on 3 things: • Verifiability of the model The first (and most important) thing that you should be thinking about is verifiability and how are you going to validate the results are actually correct. It is trivially easy to run “an MMM”, and it is very, very difficult to run a good one. You want to ask every vendor you meet how transparent are the results going to be and how –specifically– are you going to be able to verify and validate them. What you should look for here is a way to validate the vendor’s results outside of the model itself. • Model operations You also want to think about all the operational components of your MMM. Make sure you’re asking questions like: - What's the refresh cadence going to be? - How often are you actually going to be re-estimating the model and re-estimating all of the models' parameters, or are you just re-using stale parameters on fresh data? - What's the procedure for identifying when things have changed? Beware that a lot of MMM vendors use confusing terms here or have different types of refreshes that aren’t actually refreshers… put simply, you really want to be clear on exactly what's happening. • Usability of the results Here, you want to ask questions like: - How are we going to have access to the results of the model? Is it a PDF / powerpoint? What is available in the dashboard? - How will we actually use these results in our planning workflow? - What underlying data are you going to have access to? If you want to use MMM in a fast-paced, on-demand way, great usability is what unlocks it. If every time you want something you have to ask a support question and they have to ask their team in some foreign country to pull the data, it will slow you down a lot. AI is currently experiencing a dilemma: 1. Everyone's direct experience with AI (ChatGPT, Claude, Anthropic, etc) has told us that AI is likely to be the future of software (at least certain KINDS of software). It's hard to use AI tools and walk away thinking that this is just something that will "blow over" and we'll all go back to doing our jobs the old-fashioned way. 2. No one knows what AI's killer apps will be or how those apps will make money. Given that dilemma, certain companies are going to gamble by building bridges between points 1 and 2. AI isn’t just transforming the output of the advertising industry, it’s changing the inputs to it. As we grapple with the advances of GenAI we cannot leave it up to the regulators or the government to protect consumers. The tech moves too fast, and the macro players move too slowly. This job lies in the hand of every account person, strategist, creative and technologist that has a hand in creating brand experiences. Whether agency or in house - we are the last generation of marketers to know what the industry was like before the robots. We have a choice to make, embrace the change and shape the future, or get left behind.
