Volunteer Experience

  • Middle School Leader

    The Village Church

    - 2 years 8 months

    Children

I volunteer as a middle school leader at the Village Church in Flower Mound where I mentor and teach 7th grade boys about our Lord Jesus Christ. Pointing boys this age to Jesus is highly important since it is an age where many choises and decisions are made. My hope is that I can point these kids to Jesus and let them know that He is the only one to put their hope in.

I volunteered as a camp counselor at Camp John Marc near Meridian, TX, which is about an hour and a half south of Ft. Worth. The camp last for 6 days and in this time we care for, play with, encourage, and get encouraged, by children in the age of 8 to 17, with different types of Muscular Dystrophy. The camp is a yearly event where roughly 100 kids get to go away for a week and enjoy the same things that any able-bodied kid gets to do every day. Or at least have the physical ability to do at any time (Fishing, zip-lining, horseback riding, playing sports, swimming, etc.). Their family also gets a break from the daily duties of caring for their disabled child or children, which is highly important since they don’t get many of these breaks. I got involved with this camp because my wife is currently enrolled in the Physical Therapy program at UT Southwestern Medical Center, and this camp is a mandatory part of their education. Volunteering at this camp is one of the best decision that I have ever made in my life, these kids are truly amazing, inspiring, smart, and just full of joy and laughter. MDA camp is an event that I will be volunteering at every year for as long as I am able, since this is a great opportunity to serve families who are in need of being served. I actually see this as a vacation and not a week of hard work – even though it is hard work – but what a privilege it is to be a part of this family.
