Order Up! An initiated measure on South Dakota's November 5, 2024, general election ballot asks voters whether to eliminate the state sales and use tax on anything sold for human consumption, excluding alcoholic beverages and prepared food. "Prepared food" includes food that is sold heated or with utensils. The South Dakota Attorney General's explanation of the initiated measure states that South Dakota law does not define "human consumption," but its common definition includes more than food and drinks. If approved, municipalities could continue to impose such taxes. State specific taxes can be complex and difficult to interpret. Chelsea is responsible, in partnership with the President, for leading fundraising efforts to secure resources necessary to administer and deliver JA programs to more than 50,000 South Dakota students. She oversees the implementation of the strategic and tactical approach to fundraising which includes, but is not limited to, individual giving, major gifts, corporate development, grant solicitation, securing in-kind resources, special events, and stewardship efforts. Meet Chelsea and join us in celebrating her milestone! 𝗙𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘁 𝗝𝗔: Working with all the incredible people who help us to fulfill our mission! I love introducing people to JA and meeting those who have been engaged in this work for years; they all provide such important insights. Raising funds to support our lessons and experiences is incredibly fulfilling, but I also love seeing it all come full circle at our student events or when I get to be in the classroom during my own volunteer experiences. It’s incredibly impactful and important work! 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗝𝗔: I think you’d be hard-pressed to find a person in our state who doesn’t want our K-12 students to build skills and gain support, make community connections, and be prepared for life beyond high school. JA is helping our students do all of this based on our pillars of financial literacy, work and career readiness, and entrepreneurship! 𝗙𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗛𝗼𝗯𝗯𝘆 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸: I love spending time with my fiancé, Rick, and our family and friends, traveling to new destinations, snuggling my pups Pippa and Maizee, and reading a good book. Our national parks are a personal favorite for destinations, and I love checking new countries off the bucket list. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗶𝗲𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗝𝗔 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄: Building skills in budgeting and managing your finances is going to serve you well throughout your life. Omaha is a top-10 city for young professionals. Forbes named Omaha “The Best City to Move To.” How can we maintain and build upon that ranking? A survey conducted this summer by the Chamber’s Young Professionals Council and CODE, in collaboration with the University of Nebraska at Omaha Center for Public Affairs, showed respondents between 18- and 47-years-old would like to see additional transit improvements and options where they plan to live. With the addition of the streetcar to Omaha's available transit options, our metro area becomes more accessible and connected. UNO CPAR's collaboration with the Young Professionals Council and CODE (Commitment to Opportunity, Diversity, and Equity) of the Greater Omaha Chamber on a survey to explore the quality of life and workplace culture in the Greater Omaha region earlier this year revealed some insightful findings. As they pointed out in their post below, two quality-of-life factors that respondents age 18 to 47 were dissatisfied or extremely dissatisfied with included walk and bike-friendly commutes (65%) and transit options in the region (73%). United Way of Central Iowa in collaboration with Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines, and Bravo Greater Des Moines have released the results of a joint Central Iowa Nonprofit Sector Survey. The findings reveal a nonprofit sector that is facing increased demand but lacks sustainable resources to meet them. Now more than ever, nonprofits are stepping up to serve the community but to continue this critical work, they need our support. Learn about Create Wisconsin’s 2024-2025 Action Agenda, how to tell your compelling story to decision makers, and tips and guidelines to be an informed, effective advocate.   With your partnership in this effort, we have a real chance for success this year. The 2025-2027 state budget season is approaching.   As the state's creative sector advocacy and service organization, Create Wisconsin is already working hard to connect constituents with legislators and members of the Evers Administration, with a robust advocacy agenda that includes a proposal to increase funding to the Wisconsin Arts Board.  Wisconsin can and must do better to invest in an industry that strengthens the economy, quality of life, and livable, accessible communities.
