Thanks John Pryor for hosting me in this discussion. As you know I’m a big fan of identifying any asset (or liability for that matter) that can impact earnings. Then you can assign a Value at Risk (VaR) to each asset and THEN determine what countermeasures to apply from a security standpoint. I’m not a fan of starting in the middle of the process which is just applying the same risk mitigation techniques to every asset equally. I think that is very counter to the need to demonstrate “reasonable measures”. Eventually (we’re already seeing it) judges and juries are going to take a much firmer stance on this. My prediction is that we will see CISOs and other infosec experts as testifying witnesses. The FIRST thing they will speak about is “data asset classification” and limiting controls around access. How can you apply specific measures such as MFA to certain assets if you don’t know what are where they are? Great chat John!! Thank you.
