Great article from the superstar Harvard Business School team led by Karim Lakhani on how Generative AI is reshaping cultures and ways of working by lowering the expertise threshold in large organizations! This article is based on a multiple recent studies and both confirms trends we've seen before and reveals hidden patterns that every Leadership team should pay attention to. Here are my key take-aways: Confirmed Trends - Efficiency: Individuals using AI significantly cut down task time and teams matched or exceeded performance vs. control group without AI, especially in cross-functional tasks. - Efficacy: Teams with AI produced top-quality solutions at a higher rate than other groups, showing that human collaboration combined with AI generates increased performance. - Business Integration: AI usage enabled participants to develop solutions outside their expertise, e.g. technical and commercial. AI can help break down silos with broader problem-solving across functions. Hidden patterns - Team dynamics: AI usage reshapes teamwork by flattening hierarchy, especially in knowledge intensive teams as it helps balance contributions from team members with varying degrees of expertise. - Emotional Impact: AI users reported increased positive emotions (excitement, energy) and reduced negative ones (anxiety, frustration). This indicates that AI can significantly enhance the work experience. - Cognitive Dissonance: Despite objectively better performance, AI-assisted participants had lower confidence in their outcomes, revealing a disconnect between reality and perception in AI-augmented work. This is the only clear negative outcome of the study. Potential causes may be culture related, and we should stay ahead with learning and communication: 1. Less effort is tied to lesser outcomes, in spite of precedents such as industrial automation, computing, etc. 2. Work done with AI is (still) felt as "cheating", and therefore taints the experience as a fraud, undermining confidence 3. The outcome feels less personal and relatable. This could be a good thing too if it leads to more fact-based discussions in decision making vs. strong attachment to one's own ideas and preconceptions. As culture influencers and leaders, our focus should be on how we can start shifting the cultural norm regarding AI augmented work. University of California, San Francisco Chancellor, Sam Hawgood, in an interview with Matthew Lungren MD MPH at #ConvergeSummit has outlined the use of #AI scribes to create clinical notes as well as other #AI-driven technologies. Key to their success: a group of practicing physicians with knowledge of AI ensuring that the technology fits into the physicians’ existing workflow, which improves physician adoption of the technology. Another key: measure success through reduction in physician burnout and improvement in patient satisfaction, not increases in physician productivity. Final key: have a real-time, frequent review of implemented technologies to ensure that they still support and are relevant to changing clinical care standards - and shut the technologies down if they are not supporting their purpose.

🗝 Key Variables and Strategies Beyond LLM Selection 🚀   I have observed customers spend disproportionate amount of time deciding which Large Language Model (LLM) platform they want to commit to for their first Generative AI (GenAI) application. As they near the end of their journey they realize that LLMs by themselves account only for say 15% of the overall project effort! And then I witness another customer go through the same process. While the selection of a suitable LLM is a critical first step in GenAI application development, there are several other vital aspects to consider for a successful and differentiated GenAI strategy. Let me share a few for consideration:   Many have said it before and I will echo their words of wisdom– ‘there will be no one model to rule them all’. Historical examples from various industries, such as search engines, internet browsers, cell phone manufacturers, and car manufacturers, have shown that while first movers often play a crucial role in introducing new concepts and technologies, they don't always maintain their leadership position in the long run. As market needs evolve, new players frequently emerge with innovative solutions better suited to address the changing landscape.   LLM fitment warrants a balance between inference cost, quality of output, and latency. Balancing these three factors is essential for any GenAI implementation. I have witnessed several customers who complained about cost overruns as their GenAI application user base and use cases grew. Across multiple customer engagements, I've noticed a common pattern: to balance cost, quality, and latency effectively, customers often find it beneficial to leverage multiple LLMs within a single use case, with each LLM selected for specific actions or needs based on their unique strengths and trade-offs. For example: A request to see corporate employee vacation policy does not need the biggest most expensive LLM inference call!   Also, you will realize that the quality and relevance of your data play a crucial role in your GenAI application’s success. Data Governance, RAG implementation, and Context fine-tunning not only improves performance but also enables organizations to create unique, tailored AI applications that cater to specific business needs. This is an iterative process and takes cycles. An emerging best practice is to integrate existing keyword index search systems with RAG implementations. In many cases, end-users are accustomed to searching information using these systems, and a hybrid approach that incorporates this context has proven to yield more relevant and complete results. Advancing multilingual AI in Asia : the topic of my talk in the recently concluded NVIDIA AI summit in Mumbai really talks about how Tech Mahindra and NVIDIA together are taking LLMs for the new world order Yes there are multiple LLMs but as you all know foundation models do very well in a generic space but fail when its verticalized domain based space . They have to be fine tuned . Data has to be curated well and above all it’s not science but sort of a dark art to attain resonance of models which are guardrailed , and are ethical for an organisation. The future is just not verticalized LLms but genetic workflows as well , but the biggest area of work today is how to give reasoning and context to these models so that they establish a world model in their dreams to answer correctly. Foundational Issues in Current AI, ML, and Neural Network Technology and Implementations Dr. KRS Murthy The whole industry of entrepreneurs and investors, medium and large companies in AI in this case, yet applies the same concepts and implementations proposed by Geoffrey Hinton to all technology and industry verticals. All his and his thought leader followers, researchers, inventors, implementers, products and services developers, products and services companies in the current paradigm of the buzz word “neural network”, but is only an artificially contrived and even a misnomer implying that the implementations are based on the totally incorrect and dubiously fictitious modeling of how the human brain works. Based on my human brain tomography led be me in Bell Labs, further various human brain tomography with improved Magnetic Resonance Imaging techniques at progressively finer resolutions, called the “voxels”, which term and concept refers a three dimensional version of a pixel, the brain and the human body, including intelligence from the power resulting in its functioning as a “wet biochemistry based”. The current AI and Expert Systems paradigms are pivoted on the “neural network” model of the human brain, and further the premise and practice of machine learning. It is imperative to understand at the foundational level the paradigm under which the human brain works is substantially and even at the brain chemistry level extremely is based on unique paradigm extremely different from current misnomer concepts based implantations. I understand and have thoroughly digested the human brain parts, components, the integrated functioning from various brain components and parts levels, also at the wet chemistry level, having thoroughly done brain tomography and brain MRI, plus how the memory in the human brain works, and further how the brain works interactively and collaboratively with the heart, lungs, the gut biomicrobiota in multiple trillions, plus vitally how the emotional functioning of the brain with pseudo intellectual functioning of the human brain, plus the basic human brain functioning concepts of the memory components, even the clocking mechanism in the brain and the “gut brain” effect and influence each other. The clocking mechanism in the human brain and other parts of the body is based on pulse width mechanism, very different compared to a single master clock originating from a quartz crystal, further subdivided into dependent clocks in the current semiconductor based industry of computers and dependent implementations of AI systems. An interesting article caught my attention, India has less than 2,000 senior engineers who can build core AI products. In the race to equip India's workforce with AI skills, there's an evident paradox. On one hand, we witness technology giants like Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys, Accenture, and Microsoft undertaking massive upskilling initiatives, training hundreds of thousands of employees. Yet, on the other hand, we confront a stark reality—a severe shortage of seasoned engineers capable of building core #AI products. This dissonance begs the question: are we investing in skill acquisition without ensuring its effective utilization? The numbers might be impressive, but they mask a deeper issue—the gap between training and practical application. While the focus on mass skilling is commendable, it's imperative to ask whether we're fostering an ecosystem conducive to #innovation and #entrepreneurship. India's future prosperity hinges not merely on acquiring technical competencies but on cultivating a mindset of relentless innovation and problem-solving. We must transition from a culture of routine employment to one that champions #creativity and #disruption. This requires a fundamental shift in our approach—a departure from the traditional 9-to-5 mindset towards a culture that celebrates risk-taking, experimentation, and learning from failure. Absolutely, the need for this paradigm shift is most critical at the top level. Here, bureaucratic tendencies often hinder execution and decision-making. What's required is a shift towards a results-oriented, mission-driven approach, where leaders prioritize #action and drive change effectively; even if require to make some hard decisions. At this pivotal juncture, India cannot afford to rest on its laurels. The AI revolution demands not just skilled workers but visionary #leaders who can harness technology's potential to drive meaningful change. It's time to bridge the gap between skill acquisition and real-world application, empowering a new generation of Innovation pioneers to chart the course for India's technological prowess on the global stage.
