As software development grew in the 70s & 80s, it adopted management styles from manufacturing with little change. This gave rise to the Waterfall development model, emphasizing linear processes, extensive planning, and rigid workflows. These practices left a lasting legacy, particularly the focus on outputs over outcomes. In manufacturing, it’s easy to measure how many widgets are produced but harder to assess their impact on customers. Applying this output-focused mindset to product development is a critical flaw. What’s the difference between a software developer and a visual developer? It’s all about the approach. 💡 Functionality over aesthetics. Software developers prioritize robust functionality, focusing on building features that meet user needs. Visual developers, on the other hand, emphasize user experience and design, often iterating on visual elements to enhance engagement and usability. 🔁 Flexibility over rigidity. While software developers aim for stable, maintainable code, visual developers thrive in a dynamic environment where they can rapidly prototype and adjust designs. They prioritize quick iterations and user feedback to refine visual elements and layouts. 📈 Creativity over convention. Visual developers embrace creative solutions and unconventional approaches, understanding that experimentation can lead to innovative designs. In contrast, software developers might prioritize tried-and-true methods to ensure reliability, even if it means sacrificing some creativity. Both roles are essential, but their mindsets drive different outcomes!

The world becomes software As we increasingly use software to create new non-software structures and remodel old ones, gradually those non-software structures become structured more like software. Because of the relationship those structures have with social structures, such as the individual or the society, the social structures will become increasingly structured like software. Humans will do very little in the future in terms of software, but doings of humans are increasingly modelled by software. Those who have said that software will become like human, got it all wrong, it is human that will become like software. At the very least, with the development of things as it is now. Today, we model the world with software, tomorrow, the software models us on itself. All of this is very subtle, in plain sight. Beyond science fiction.
