“I provided some QA work for Ayinde with Hitch Radio, and he was a joy to work with! He is one of those people that you want to do your best work for, and I did! He has great ideas, and puts them into effect and gets others to believe in them, as I did. If you get the chance to work for Ayinde, please help him!”

No greater example of the danger of AI than this letter written by the principal of a private Catholic School in San Jose managed and supervised by the wife of mayor Matt Mahn. A post on Mother’s Day weekend on social media was improper. However, it stands for the danger of chilling speech and ignoring speech that tries to bubble up from gossip and pillow talk. Journalists with training and experience know the difference between gossip - misinformation and facts. It is not our job to make judgements , but to provide information that allows others to decide. As a mother of a kid who attended Catholic schools as a young boy , the uncertainty and worry was louder after the Boston Globe exposed the pattern of priests inflicting harm on young boys and men that should never have been tolerated. Had social media been around then , you bet it would have exposed it far sooner as all gossip and rumor are tied to some truth but don’t rise high enough until the noise reveals a pattern that would hold up in court. The social media posts referenced in the letter were not only improper , but dangerous gossip. Dangerous gossip is when something is said and the people who hear it think it so unbelievable it must be either untrue or outrageously illegal. In other words comedy and satire , which is protected speech. The social media posts the letter referenced were reportedly made over Mother’s Day Weekend and were in regards to transgender issues and teachers talking about porn they personally watched at home. If there was any truth , meaning a credible source with documents or video , it needed to be flushed out and discussed with the school , not just posted on social media. Journalists can use comedy and satire, just not when trying to cover local news or information. If they do they are subject to discrediting and retaliation. Which is well deserved. When we publish comments , not as opinion or satire , but as information , we open ourselves up to defamation or to not being resoected or liked when we do. When we have done the work - records requests - interviews and newgatheing , there is less worry when we carefully publish information without personal embroilment or skipping the steps we know we have to take to do our job right on legacy or social media. 2024 may be the year that the nation watches the Presidential election, but it should also be the year everyone watches the local elections and court proceedings here in Santa Clara County. It is afterall the first year since the BBMP was shuttered following our reporting on it in the Davis Vanguard.

TOP 10 Generative AI Headlines of the Week for Media & Entertainment (week ending 6/28/24): (1) Generative AI music companies finally face the music! The Recording Industry Association of America® (RIAA) filed twins-ie lawsuits on behalf of the major labels against Suno and Udio, two of the most well funded #AI #music generators. Not surprising. Both were on my recent media and entertainment “Top 10 ‘Watch List.’” (2) As if that weren’t bad enough, #Suno is being used to generate racist and antisemitic music according to a new report from the Anti-Defamation League. Not good. (3) Meanwhile, YouTube is trying to convince the major labels to license their music for its AI song generator. Good luck with that! #YouTube is trying to use its most convincing argument yet - boatloads of cash - to convince them to sing its AI tune. But they’re not convinced yet. In other words, a lot more cash. (4) All of this begs the question, should media companies litigate or license? Here’s one more to add to the list. Non-profit newsroom The Center of Investigative Reporting (producer of Mother Jones) just sued OpenAI for infringement, essentially using a “market substitution” argument. (5) Wanna make your own TV show? Now you can! Fable Studio’s “Showrunner” is the new generative AI platform that reportedly makes it all possible. Users reportedly can create original episodes of their favorite animated television shows. Favorite LICENSED animated shows? (6) Can any of us tell what’s real now? AI is getting better fast, reports The New York Times. Now it’s virtually impossible to distinguish whether photorealistic images are, in fact, real. At the same time, Instagram's new “Made with AI” tag is enraging photographers for flagging photos that are NOT AI-generated. How about that for irony! (7) It’s farming news, AI style! Bloomberg reports that AI newscasters now deliver news that moos (without being actual newscasters). Is the news these synthcasters deliver synthetic too? (8) Maybe that’s why the number of dystopian movies have doubled since 2010 according to TheWrap. Don’t expect any slowdown anytime soon. (9) Jeff Bezos demands that Amazon-backed Anthropic makes faster deliveries! And it did. Last week, #Anthropic announced its new souped up generative AI model Claude 3.5 Sonnet to catch up to ChatGPT 4o. But OpenAI’s diabolically clever CEO Sam Altman is expected to leapfrog over Bezos when he ultimately releases GPT-5 later this year. (10) NVIDIA doesn’t just serve us AI chips anymore. It recently announced its new NVIDIA ACE generative micro-services dip to accelerate the next wave of digital humans. You know, so that we can spend more time away from each other in the real world! Takeaways on SB-1012, the Latest Bill Aiming to Regulate Psychedelics in California The quick take-away on California’s Senator Scott Weiner bill SB 1012’s passing out of the Business and Professions Committee is that we have proposed legislation that creates ⚫ a new licensing Board, called the Board of Psychedelic Facilitators under the Department of Consumer Affairs, “which will license and regulate professional ⚫ facilitators trained in psychedelic-assisted therapy” for people older than 21 ⚫ use will be required to be supervised — presumably in clinical spaces, yet to be elaborated ⚫ covers the substances psilocybin/psilocyn (mushrooms), 🔹 Dimethyltryptamine (“DMT,” the active ingredient in ayahuasca), 🔹 MDMA, and 🔹 mescaline (other than peyote) ⚫ substances will be required to be tested by a licensed entity ⚫ facilitators will be required to possess an existing professional health license, such as psychiatrists, licensed clinical social workers, drug & alcohol counselors, and nurse practitioners ⚫ sponsored by the Heroic Hearts Project, Law Enforcement Action Partnership (LEAP), and VETS, Veterans Exploring Treatment Solutions, Inc This development reflects momentum for increased access for psychedelics without creating a suddenly open market. Oregon just RE-criminalized psychedelics along with other drugs, after the 2020 ballot initiative Ballot Measure 110 was reversed by Oregon’s House Bill 4002, which goes into effect in September 2024, making it about 3.5 years that Oregon’s experiment will have lasted. Noteworthy on SB-1012: ⚫ No, ketamine is not on the list ⚫ What will be considered appropriate training for facilitators has yet to be defined and apparently that will be handled by the Regulated Psychedelic Substances Advisory Committee We’re still examining the details at Enthereal of the proposed legislations, and we’ll have more analysis as we progressively break it down. I'm Kiya, founder of Enthereal, CTO at Amore360, and head integrator at Prism14 — research and policy around controlled substances, emerging therapeutics and entheogens, mental health advocate and stigma destigmatizer, biochemist, entrepreneurial coach, formulation expert, coalescing grassroots clinical cohorts, molecular and digital designer, catalyst cat, electron wrangler, sustainability scorcher Thank you for reading ~and~ engaging.
