    BBC 'Janala' (www.bbcjanala.com) is part of English in Action (EiA), a major educational initiative funded by UKaid from the Department for International Development (DFID). The project aims to raise the English language skills of 25 million Bangladeshis by 2017. As part of EiA (http://www.eiabd.com/eia/index.php/abouts/about-eia), BBC Media Action has introduced a unique, multi-platform, award-winning service called BBC Janala, which aims to help the people of Bangladesh learn English in innovative ways, using mobile phones, print, web, television, CDs and books. Over 23.8 million people have accessed BBC Janala to date, from all socio-economic groups.

    BBC Janala has won a series of international awards including: 'Microsoft Education Award 2010' for educational innovation, 'World Summit Award (WSA) 2010' for m-learning and education, 'Global Mobile Award (GSMA) 2011' for best initiative for underserved segments, 'World Innovation Summit for Education Award (WISE) 2011' for innovation in learning, 'Mbillionth Award 2011' for m-education, 'Manthan Award 2011' for e-education and learning, and 'E-Asia Award 2011' for best open and distance learning programme.
