And we are off! Last night was already a blizzard of news and celebrity at Snowflake Summit. New CEO Sridhar Ramaswamy kicks off the keynote sharing his journey to this role - from wanting to be a drummer as a child to his time at Google Adwords to leading Snowflake in the AI era. Accounces bringing open source Polaris catalog to The Data Cloud. My POV - need to chat with Alation, Atlan, and team on their take aways, but they clearly took a page from Databricks here. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang joined virtually from Taiwan on how he is there uniting the infrastructure ecosystem, bringing compute closer to the data, with integration between Snowflake’s Artic LLM and Nivdia TensorRT-LLM. I loved that Denise Persson brought the CDO/CDAO panel to the main stage as indeed these leaders have gone from backroom to board room in this GenAI era. Favorite points: CDO Shahran Haider NYC Health - top 3 priority is to democratize data (My pov - yes - what is the point of collecting it unless it is in the hands of decision makers at the point of impact). Now measuring business value (yes a must!) CDO Caitlin Halferty Ericsson - just a few years ago she did a research note while at IBM that revealed many thought this role would not be necessary (omg! ).
