How can News organizations, networks and local stations groups create more content, more efficiently, and with better quality? 1- Virtual #extendedreality and #augmentedreality environments on LED studios are at the forefront of the technology adoption that is making immersive experiences the gateway for a new storytelling reality. 2- How the news and local content is going to be produced to engage younger audiences in the near future is beyond today's physical and green screen studios and way closer to a gamified LED XR immersive content experience without creative boundaries.

Streaming will be added to national TV ratings. The Media Rating Council (MRC), an oversight group that applies standards to audience measurement models from companies such as Nielsen, Comscore and VideoAmp, has approved a plan for Nielsen to integrate first-party streaming data into the company's panel-based national TV ratings. The "panel plus big data" measurement has the potential - at least for live events - to show that a significantly higher number of people are watching a particular program than the panel-only measurement. The sample size for panel plus big data is currently small. Amazon is the only Nielsen client currently using integrated measurement, for its Prime Video Thursday Night Football telecasts. In his a statement Nielsen CEO Karthik Rao highlighted the importance of the MRC's approval, which confirms Nielsen's ability to introduce this innovation in a safe and verified manner. With proven methodologies such as our panel of accredited individuals and precise new research solutions for the streaming measurement era, Nielsen will ensure accurate measurement of the content viewers are watching. Our industry will finally have a true picture of linear and streaming audiences. Data there has shown a significant increase with the addition of Amazon's streaming data, about an 8 per cent increase (just under 1 million viewers) from the panel-only measure. Nielsen's panel-only figures have 'Thursday Night Football' averaging 13.2 million viewers per game this season. The Big Data addition pushes the audience to 14.26 million. This increases the number of titles with limited multi-platform data from other networks that occasionally report combined TV and streaming numbers for live events. NBC's Sunday Night Football has averaged about 18.9 million TV viewers this season (streaming on the Peacock and other digital platforms, as measured by Adobe Analytics). Those games have grown to 21.3 million, an increase of about 13 percent. Other Nielsen clients such as Fox, ESPN and CBS have also seen streaming gains for live sports, although not as regularly (CBS is also currently in a contract dispute with Nielsen and does not use its ratings product). Nielsen is currently in talks with a number of other clients to use the panel plus big data measurement for live events. What it won't do, however, is show additional same-day viewing for most regular programming or episodes of popular TV series. The new tool could help networks and streamers reach an even wider audience. Live broadcasts are among the most reliable viewers on television. Let me know what you think in the comments. The latest Radio World eBook includes a great QA with Chris Gould of All In Media (part of Xperi Inc.) on how its Rapid solution fits into the metadata ecosystem. As Chris explains, Rapid enables broadcasters to "manage the creation, synchronization, and distribution of metadata associated with their audio services across broadcast and IP platforms." He further explains how "metadata is the key that ensures a listener has the best experience while consuming the station's content." Good report from Variety on #generativeAI in the film and TV industries. One intriguing tidbit was how big an effect people think AI will most likely have in certain areas of the industry: the top three are search and discovery, video analytics, and localization. Content creation was further down the list. It's also got a good outline of the state-of-the-state, as well as an overview of attitudes toward the tech from a number of different parties.

During a conference this week, Sony Pictures Entertainment CEO Tony Vinciquerra stated that the business is trying to create more profitable, genre-specific streaming projects that are equivalent to Crunchyroll. Tony stated, "We would love to launch more genre-based targeted, passionate fan centered streaming services. We're really positive on that front. And that's what we're now working on. However, it will take some time for the market to stabilize." He added that Sony is not beset by legacy TV networks, in contrast to Disney and other broadcasters. When he began working for Sony, the business had 110 cable networks worldwide. However, all of those networks have since been sold, with the exception of three markets—Spain, Latin America, and India—where cable networks are continuously expanding. For licensing of content, Sony has "proposed structures where we'd get the show back after 4 years or 5 years as opposed to the much longer terms that are currently in place, but thus far, there hasn't been much development in that area." Tony said that when it comes to consolidation in the market, Sony plans to "sit back and watch what comes available to us because we're in a very stable, very comfortable position. And we think that there will be lots of businesses that pop out of these companies...we would be interested in taking on mainly in the IP area, and that's really where we'll be focused." #streamingmedia #sony #SVOD #AVOD #paytv #cordcutting

Although no surprises, as production is down everywhere (although it seems to be rebounding more outside of the U.S., e.g., Canada, the UK and Australia. Acknowledging Governor Newsom is doing all he can (given the political climate, and budgetary issues & concerns) Los Angeles and California will face further competition from Illinois (as announced last week, Illinois now allows National Talk Shows, (‘Jimmy Kimmel’ Live – note, ‘The Tonight Show’, ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’ and “The Kelly Clarkson Show” – have already moved to NY because of incentives), Game Shows (e.g., ‘Jeopardy’ and ‘Wheel of Fortune’) and Contest Shows (e.g., “American Idol” and ‘America’s Got Talent’). Talk Shows, Game Shows and Contest Shows do not qualify for the California incentive. Also, NJ Governor just signed a new bill, further enhancing the NJ incentive – reviewing the Bill now and will summarize and share ASAP.  Also noting, there was pending legislation in other states (e.g., Oklahoma - while it didn’t pass in Oklahoma this year, Oklahoma will try again to incentivize live tv/episodic television (still LA/CA’s bread & butter!!! “In a groundbreaking move, the Recording Industry Association of America just announced lawsuits brought by labels including Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group Recordings, and Warner Records against AI music generators Udio and Suno, accusing them of copyright infringement. The lawsuits claim Suno and Udio’s software steals music to “spit out” similar work and ask for compensation of $150,000 per work. This case underscores the ongoing battle between the music industry and generative AI companies over the unauthorized use of copyrighted material. The RIAA lawsuit highlights that Udio and Suno’s models are trained on copyrighted music without permission, a fact admitted by Udio’s CEO and co-founder, David Ding. According to court documents, Ding has stated that Udio’s high-quality outputs are the result of training on “publicly available and high-quality music” obtained from the internet. This admission forms the crux of the plaintiffs' argument that Udio’s outputs are derivative works of copyrighted recordings. For instance, using a prompt like “my tempting 1964 girl Smokey sing Hitsville soul pop” and excerpting lyrics from The Temptations, Udio generated a track titled “Sunshine Melody,” which closely resembles the copyrighted song “My Girl” by The Temptations (all tracks have now been deleted by Udio). The plaintiffs have provided side-by-side transcriptions of the musical scores to demonstrate the similarities in melody, chords, and backing vocals, proving that Udio’s outputs are not merely inspired by but copied from the original recordings.
