  • Hottest Marketing Trends Likely to Still Matter in 5 Years

    PM360

A huge shift has occurred to a model of creating Human Experiences (HX), and evaluating new tools, techniques, and platforms through this lens. Creating a strategic HX framework that will help evaluate individual trends and tactics will allow marketing teams to choose those that will actually help drive the great experiences that will engage stakeholders. What you don’t want to do is what I call the “get me a Facebook page” syndrome where you follow a trend or tactic simply because everyone…

Creating a strategic HX framework that will help evaluate individual trends and tactics will allow marketing teams to choose those that will actually help drive the great experiences that will engage stakeholders. What you don’t want to do is what I call the “get me a Facebook page” syndrome where you follow a trend or tactic simply because everyone else is doing it.

  • Rise of Digital Voice Assistants & The Hospital Room of the (Near) Future

    HIT Consultant

Hospital rooms thrum with the steady beat of monitors. And while a patient must quickly adapt to a cacophony of beeps and drips, when a sudden alarm pierces the air, it’s a nerve-wracking experience—especially if a nurse doesn’t step in immediately. The patient must fumble for the nurse-call button, which can usually be found dangling by the side of the bed. But if you’re sick, weak or hugely pregnant, even rolling over slightly to grab the cord can be a herculean effort.

  • Biztegra’s “The Optimized Publisher” White Paper

    Biztegra

On March 18, 2015, I made an offer on the Digital Book World (DBW) blog [www.digitalbookworld.com] to perform a free, quick analysis of independent publishers’ websites and determine their current levels of “having a modern website and search engine optimization (SEO).” We received an overwhelming response of requests from book publishers whose content varied across the industry. We selected twelve brave and extremely helpful companies who allowed me and the Biztegra team to evaluate them and…

We selected twelve brave and extremely helpful companies who allowed me and the Biztegra team to evaluate them and then present an industry cross-section of how they fare in terms of Optimizations across a set of 15 criteria/SEO factors.
    These are the results.

  • Final Thoughts: Independent Publishers in a Modern, Optimized World

    Digital Book World

When we presented our analysis of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) factors amongst independent book publishers more than 16 weeks ago, we began a journey that I hoped would be eye-opening to the participants and Digital Book World readers alike. What we’ve learned on our way has certainly been enlightening—a chance to view achievements, challenges and opportunities for independent publishers in the online environment.

  • The Optimized Publisher: HTTPS

    Digital Book World

HTTPS—or Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure—adds an extra layer of security for your website. It protects data (both yours and your users’), specifically informational and transactional data, from being hacked or viewed without your consent. It is an important step in preventing access to personal information, especially if you are an independent publisher conducting e-commerce transactions through your website. But it has become even more important, as Google decided to add HTTPS as a ranking…

But it has become even more important, as Google decided to add HTTPS as a ranking factor for SEO a little over a year ago.

  • The Optimized Publisher: XML Sitemaps

    Digital Book World

Creating XML sitemaps for your site can be a bit tricky, and like the site itself, they need to be updated as the content and pages on your site change. Only three of our evaluation participants currently use the sitemaps, and the aggregate score for the XML sitemaps is 1.9 (an “F” grade), so let’s delve a little deeper into how this bit of code can improve your Search Engine Optimization (SEO).

  • The Optimized Publisher: Author Amplification

    Digital Book World

In one of my previous posts in this series, “Content – Fresh, Exciting and Inviting,” I pointed out that authors are one of the greatest assets and resources for a publisher’s website. In this installment of my evaluation of independent book publishers, I hope to dive a little deeper into promoting your authors regularly (and letting them promote themselves) in order to boost Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and sales and customer retention. In this installment of my evaluation of independent book publishers, I hope to dive a little deeper into promoting your authors regularly (and letting them promote themselves) in order to boost Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and sales and customer retention. This is an incredibly important factor in how we evaluate what a modern publishing site should be.

  • The Optimized Publisher: Social Integration

    Digital Book World

Social integration is also of great use to e-commerce. Online sales will generate more than $370 billion by 2017, with referrals by the top social media sites bringing customers closer to converting visits into purchases. So, as an independent book publisher, how can you take advantage of social media through your online presence?

  • Is Your Site Mobile-Friendly?

    Digital Book World

The end result, as of April 2015, is that Google’s algorithm has added “mobile-friendly” as a factor in ranking your website on Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs). So what does this mean to the book publishing industry? It means that in order to stay competitive with your peers and the major retailers, you’ll need to bring your website to your customers wherever they are on whatever device they are on (including the full e-commerce transactional experience).

  • The Optimized Publisher: Code Validation

    Digital Book World

Much has been debated about the importance (or lack thereof) of valid coding when it comes to SEO. However, I hope to show you that clean website code can 1) be an SEO factor worth reviewing, 2) influence click through rates (CTR) and 3) prevent users from bouncing away from your webpages. In any case, what we are looking for in these analyses is a modern, optimized website. And if your code is full of errors compared to the set standards, it is neither modern nor optimized. • The Optimized Publisher: Images

    Digital Book World

Using search-optimized images on your webpages can give you a major advantage over your competitors. Book jackets and author images, pictures of book readings and other live events, or even a simple graph can significantly attract users and convert their visits to purchases.
