Welcome to #Movember! The growing begins. Last year I spoke to a Prostate Cancer Survivor. None other than Presidio's own CEO, Bob Cagnazzi. We had a great talk about his journey with #Prostate #Cancer and coming out the other side. First and foremost, thank you Bob. If this saves one life, what a gift that will be. Bob was 48 when a simple blood test at a physical showed an elevated PSA. Bob had not had a physical in quite some time. This is something you can have done, it is a Prostate Specific Antigen. It's a great preventative test to see how your Prostate is functioning. You can't have the test if you don't go to the doctor! No more waiting 5 years to get a physical. Do it annually. From there Bob went to meet with several doctors. Oncologists, Surgeons, Urologists, GP, etc. His advice is to spend time with multiple specialties. Ask a lot of questions. What have been your best outcomes? Why? What has been your success? What techniques do you use? What have been your worst outcomes? Why? Oncologist tend to lean towards radiation, surgeons tend to lead towards surgery. Get a full scope of what is out there and what is best for you. Ask if they have an affiliated sexual dysfunction practice. Make sure you fully understand the side effects of each option on the table. Bottom line, get a physical. Ask for your PSA to be tested. Remember, around 10.8M men globally are facing Prostate Cancer. As scary as it is, if detected early, it is one of the best survival rates out there. Growing up in a coastal community in Southern California gave me an early appreciation for the importance of protecting the environment, especially the oceans and waterways, and the impact we can all have. Our willingness to take action makes a difference, and it is something I try to prioritize in my life. Our ability to protect these fragile eco-systems sets up a much more sustainable and bright future for generations to come. Just a couple weeks back we observed World Ocean Day, and I participated in one of The Surfrider Foundation's “Beach Cleanup” events a few days later as a small way to give back.  For me, it is a crucial reminder of our shared responsibility to protect the coastlines and oceans.    Additionally, HP released the 2023 Sustainable Impact Report, and I’m excited to share that we’re making substantial progress. We’ve hit the 40% mark in our journey to make our products and packaging more sustainable by 2030. We’re almost halfway to our goal of ensuring what we create is part of a circular economy. By using less packaging in our products, we reduce the pressure on landfills and bodies of water, preventing major issues like the Great Pacific Garbage Patch (https://bit.ly/3VE1pOD). HP is going even further in its sustainability mission by launching our Renewal Solutions Business unit, dedicated to creating offers and programs that enable things like PC refurbishment, and device lifecycle extension capabilities. HP ensures that aging devices meet rigorous quality standards, but more importantly, reduce waste and promote a circular economy. It’s about delivering more value to our customers in their tech investments and enabling our solutions to last longer, so we use less and provide more value to the environment. Here a few of many points that really resonated with me at the 2024 Black Men Xcel conference hosted by Black Enterprise Magazine and Co-sponsored by Dell Technologies. We had a great time meeting men and women from all over the country while sharing best practices and experiences that will help us grow as leaders. Onward and upward! 1.) Be present (physically and mentally) to build strong relationships 2.) Master small habits and focus on the process 3.) Do the things that were not done before and others won’t do after. The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) continues to extend the statutory deadline in its crucial rulemaking proceeding, further prolonging the uncertainty for VoIP providers operating in California.
