📣 Make way for a healthcare RANT! 📣 🙊 Is it just me, or has "free" preventive care become the latest oxymoron? 🙃 Has anyone else experienced or heard about in-network providers charging additional administrative fees in order to be a patient? ✋ This is a growing trend in the CA marketplace, so prepare yourself for this fee if you haven't seen it already. Even if it's an in-network doctor, and you only want your "free" preventive care visit, you still have to pay a fee to be treated. Since learning about this new healthcare expense, I've spoken with representatives from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Department of Labor (DOL), and both acknowledged the problem but indicated they don't have the oversight or authority to prevent it. In fact, a DOL representative shared that she received a notice from her provider requesting a $600 fee just to remain a patient—this fee isn't applied toward treatment costs or insurance, even though the provider is in-network. So now we're paying for premiums, out-of-pocket cost to access treatment, AND an administrative fee to the doctor's office. 💸😲 Over the years, I've encouraged thousands of people in benefits meetings to take advantage of their free preventive care. I don't want to see these new expenses hinder access to essential healthcare services. The DOL representative encouraged me to write a letter to my local congressional representative about this matter. I've attached the letter in case anyone else wants to join the charge. 💪 If you're a healthcare provider or work with an insurance carrier, I welcome your insights on this issue.
