Please take a moment to look at these stats on Women in Industrial Design... It's incredibly important to recognize that ID is a field almost as male dominated as engineering is and it's even more important to learn about the steps we can take to make the filed more equitable Top 3 facts that stood out to me: 1. 51% of ID grads are women, but women only make up 28% of Industrial Designers     2. The percentage of women in ID has decreased from 30.77% in 2010 to 18.6% in 2021     3. Human-Centered Design & Manufacturing: A U.S. Blueprint for the Future? In a world where efficiency often comes at the expense of workers, the U.S. must lead the way toward a different model. Human-centered design and manufacturing offer a compelling vision that demonstrates how efficiency and growth can coexist with workers' rights and dignity. Reports about TSMC’s Arizona facility previously suggested its semiconductor yield rates exceeded those of its Taiwanese counterpart. However, this claim has since been called into question as sources have been removed or clarified. While the accuracy remains uncertain, it raises a critical discussion: Could human-centered manufacturing serve as a path forward not just for the U.S. but globally? This isn’t merely about surface-level innovation. It’s about proving that inclusion, collaboration, and sustainability can be the foundation for industrial growth. This model could inspire allies like South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan to reconsider their approaches to manufacturing. Looking forward, human-centered manufacturing could also address broader challenges, like housing supply. With AI-driven modular design and robotics-based prefab construction, we can improve efficiency and reimagine how housing markets function. Throughout my career, I've been a huge advocate of a "pencils before pixels" approach to design. When a stakeholder asks me about my preferred design tool, I answer with "research, followed by concept evaluation." Lower-fidelity wireframes and sketches are often overlooked (or actively avoided) by Stakeholders, Product Managers, Developers, and even, sadly, many Designers. With so many visual design tools and design-to-code systems available, it's easy to get excited by the visual polish of a high-fidelity prototype. But I've found that clients who really understand the problems they're trying to solve - and who are willing to evaluate potential solutions before jumping into development - end up seeing the design role as being far more valuable to their business in the long-term. As Pavel Samsonov writes: "the biggest value of design is not delivering a thing faster. It’s delivering the right thing faster." This goes beyond ethics and includes other dimensions such as sustainability, but I’m looking forward to taking a look at this book. I'm a creative and I think the ad is great. They incorporated an extremely popular type of video and were able to trigger an emotional response. Why is this good? Because you will remember it. Hydraulic presses crushing things gets a lot of views on YouTube and they turned it into a memorable advertisement. We packed all of this into the thinnest form factor yet! There is a lot of eye candy as things explode. The objects are meaningful, which creates an uneasy feeling, (emotion = remembered). They reinforce that feeling with the foam emoji ball right at the end 😳 When you're working on your next project, how can you trigger an emotion to help people remember it? It doesn't have to be an advertisement. You can use this for presentations or to help sell your idea.
