✍ "I apologize for such a long letter - I didn't have time to write a short one." This is some times the hardest part of putting together a slide deck for a presentation. In my mind I have a very tight understanding of what I want to present, but when I put it into slides -- trying to cover context, background, motivation, reasons, etc -- the slides balloon. Trying to cut it down and shape it is the most time-intensive part! 👀 Look forward to presenting on platform engineering, service mesh, and modern networking at the InfoQ DevSummit in #Boston next week! See you there! #networking #devops #platformengineering #kubernetes #apis #apigateway #servicemesh #istio #resilience #security #authentication #networkpolicy https://lnkd.in/gAmT_swJ

GraphQL makes your APIs better. The days of #GraphQL vs #REST are over, now it is all about how both technologies can work together to deliver value to your end users and customers as part of cohesive #API strategy. They can exist side by side and enable each other. I’m genuinely excited about what Apollo GraphQL and our product roadmap will be delivering to show the world just what is possible! Check out this great interview with Matt DeBergalis by Intuit Open Source and hear his thoughts on how the the two technologies can build on each other 👇🏻 #EnterpriseArchitecture #PlatformEngineering

An eye-opening piece on the "Observability Cost Crisis" by bitdrifts Matt Klein. It suggests a major shift in how we handle logging, metrics, and traces to curb the spiraling costs. The idea? . . . . . . . . . . . . Default to storing no telemetry data unless specifically identified as needed on the fly. While this sounds radical, the argument is that recent advancements in infrastructure AI/ML can make it a reality. #CloudEngineering #Infrastructure #Observability #SaaS #CostEfficiency

‘How much work does it take to switch to a 3rd party software licensing solution?’ I spoke with a software vendor this week, who had recognized the value of 3rd party software licensing solutions. He was tired of the hassle of in-house licensing systems, the complexity, integration issues, and maintenance burdens. He wanted to make the switch to a software licensing solution provider, but was worried about the workload. So he asked me, candidly: ‘How much work are we talking?’. After many years working in the software licensing space, we've streamlined integration through readily available resources. 10Duke offers SDKs and sample applications, providing a simple and familiar way to access our APIs using your preferred programming language or framework. These SDKs handle user authentication (OIDC) and obtaining access tokens for authorized API calls. Some even manage license consumption and other functionalities. We offer SDKs for C++, C#, Java, .NET, Angular, and React. Transitioning to a third-party licensing system is a strategic decision, which requires a level of short-term commitment, but with our robust SDKs, the heavy lifting is already done. This significantly reduces the time and effort required from your development team.

The Site Reliability Engineering: How Google Runs Production System book is arguably one of the most prevalent and well-known SRE resources out there, but there are many other great options for folks looking to expand on their learning. We recently spoke to Google's Reliability Advocate, Steve McGhee, in our Humans of Reliability interview series. In addition to his interesting anecdotes on the early days of SRE at Google, and his journey to becoming a Reliability Advocate, he also shared a handful of his favorite SRE resources, which we compiled here into a list: https://lnkd.in/gpUVhyRa

I had a great time speaking with FedScoop again, this time joined by Manuel “Manny” Medrano, the U.S. Department of State’s Director of Cyber Monitoring and Operations, to discuss how modern data management tools are facilitating agile software development and operational efficiency across the public sector. Today, public sector agencies everywhere are modernizing at scale, and it’s great to see MongoDB facilitating this innovation. MongoDB Atlas for Government is the next generation standard for public sector developers, and by reducing developer complexity while meeting strict data governance requirements, we’re making it easier for government teams to build the software of the future. Over 1,000 public sector customers in the U.S. rely on MongoDB to power mission-critical workloads every day, and I’m looking forward to seeing all that they build. Check it out! https://lnkd.in/eRf52ygw #MongoDB #PublicSector #Government #Modernization

➰ APIContext's latest insights on cloud-based API performance have been featured on Nordic APIs! In the 2024 report, we delve into crucial aspects affecting API efficiency: 🔐 Authentication is key. Ensuring robust authentication mechanisms in APIs is crucial, yet offloading this function can introduce complex challenges. 📖 DNS configurations matter. How you handle DNS settings can significantly impact API performance, particularly when tied to authentication processes. 🌐 The role of third parties. Critical third-party services play a significant role in 🔗 API transactions, underscoring the need for careful integration and monitoring. ⛅ Not all clouds are created equal. Differences in cloud services can drastically affect API performance, an essential consideration as APIs account for over 80% of all internet traffic. #APIs #CloudComputing #TechInsights #APIContext
