Since we launched Redshift Streaming Ingestion with Kinesis Data Streams (KDS) and Managed Streaming for Apache Kafka (MSK) we have seen great adoption with thousands of customers ingesting data at very high rates with low latency directly to Redshift Managed Storage. One common request was to extend the ingestion capabilities to other Kafka sources. Today we are extending Redshift's Streaming Ingestion to support self-managed Apache Kafka on EC2 as well as partners, such as Confluent Cloud. Go and Ingest! https://lnkd.in/gpzC-JD2 #amazon #redshift #streaming #ingestion #kafka #confluent

In collaboration with AWS, we are thrilled to announce the Confluent blueprint for Amazon OpenSearch Ingestion! This serverless feature enables customers to effortlessly transfer data from Confluent to OpenSearch Domains or OpenSearch Serverless collections. This capability unlocks numerous new use cases, such as Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), real-time log analytics, and more. Read the full announcement, including a complete example of setting up a Confluent/OpenSearch pipeline using the new blueprint (with optional use of Schema Registry), here ➡️

While most organizations are eager to adopt cloud technology, challenges like data sovereignty, regulatory compliance, and low-latency requirements are must-haves for some groups looking for a cloud provider. The need to keep sensitive data in certain locations, adhere to strict regulations, and ensure swift responsiveness can make it difficult to capitalize on the cloud's inherent advantages of innovation, scalability, and cost-efficiency. Designed with AI and data-intensive workloads in mind, Google Distributed Cloud offers a fully managed solution, a range of deployment options to fit your specific location needs, and the choice of running connected to Google Cloud's systems or air-gapped from the public internet. At Google Cloud Next, we announced a host of Google Distributed Cloud features and programs that enhance customers’ ability to adopt cutting-edge AI workloads across their environments. Read the latest Next ‘24 blog to learn more about the expanding GDC ecosystem of partner services and solutions.

In building robust, scalable distributed systems, it’s tempting to lean on events as a primary abstraction. But are they really the best approach? In this blog post I explore why events often fall short for complex systems and how a reimagined abstraction can simplify development and reduce failures: 👉 Covered topics * The pitfalls of an event-driven approach. * How durable execution offers a better path for distributed architectures. * Why this rethink could simplify and improve your distributed system. If you’re working with distributed systems, this article might just offer the perspective shift you need. #DistributedSystems #SoftwareArchitecture #EDA #Temporal #Rethink

At Vention, Amazon Web Services (AWS) isn’t just another tool in the belt—it’s something we’ve mastered over 15 years of shipping real solutions, with 250+ projects to show for it. And for me, I’ve been deep in this tech game for 13 years, watching the cloud evolve and knowing exactly where it delivers—and where it can fall short if you don’t handle it right. You’ve got cloud adoption plans? We’re not here to hand you some generic roadmap. We break it down for your specific goals and make sure AWS does exactly what it’s supposed to—elevate your business, not weigh it down. Migrating from Azure or Google Cloud? We’ve seen all the ways that can go sideways, but we’ve got the blueprint to make sure it doesn’t happen to you. Already on AWS but feel like you’re leaving money on the table? We get in there, optimize your setup, and make sure every dollar you’re spending is paying off. We’ve been through the grind, so we know what to cut, what to keep, and how to scale without the headaches. This isn’t about hype. It’s about lived experience. I’ve walked this path for over a decade, and at Vention, we don’t just talk about AWS—we’ve built our reputation on getting it right, every time. So if you’re looking for real results, not just buzzwords, we’re already ahead of the curve, making sure your next cloud move is your best one yet. #AWS #AmazonWebServices #Cloud #CloudAdoption #CloudMigration #SoftwareDevelopment #SoftwareDevelopmentPartner #Partnership #TechEcosystem #EnterpriseTech #CloudServices

AWS re:Invent lived up to the hype! With >65,000 attendees, it's clear that AWS’s scale and reach are nothing short of remarkable. Here are some key takeaways: 🤝 Partnerships are essential: They drive scale, interoperability, and the growth of any infrastructure platform. 📈 Evolution in the market: Similar to Stripe, AWS began by catering to SMBs before expanding into Enterprise. 🤖 AI leadership: With the introduction of groundbreaking models like Nova, new AI chips such as Trainium2, the cutting-edge AI supercomputer project Rainier, and an additional $4B investment in Anthropic, Amazon isn't just participating in the AI race—they're positioning themselves to lead it. 💪 Reliability matters: For those interested in infrastructure stability, check out the re:Invent talk "How Stripe achieves five and a half 9s of availability." 🎥 Media & Entertainment Insights: The industry is projected to reach $3.4T by 2028. (Don't miss the re:Invent talk “Reinventing entertainment”). 47% of Gen Z prefer social videos and live streams, solidifying the generational shift toward a creator economy. We’ve transitioned from an age of personalization to an era of hyper-personalization. Expect more growth in IP expansion across sub-segments, as evidenced by the success of high grossing video game film adaptations.

Alphabet Inc. just posted its Q2 results and outlook for the remainder of the year. There is a lot to unpack here, and I think that my colleagues will have their own assessments. So, I will keep my comments specific to the Google Cloud division which aligns with my areas of research. If you want to hear or see more about other parts of the business please check out Anshel Sag, Matthew Kimball and Patrick Moorhead . POSITIVES 1) Financially, Google Cloud hit two major milestones $10B in quarterly revenue and $1.2 B in profit contribution. That's a bit north of 20% of total revenue for the quarter. 2) AI is a driver for Cloud with the majority of it's top 100 customers using AI capabilities. There was also a mention of over 2M developers using Google AI 3) Despite a strong emphasis on its own Gemini models, Google is continuing to expand its offers through partnerships with other AI and enterprise players. OPEN QUESTIONS 1) Spending looks to remaining flattish in terms of Head Count and CAP/EX. It seems like there may be some lag in terms of the market catching up to what has been an aggressive build up the past few years. However, it might also be a sign that new technology (chips and models) is more efficient. 2) When asked about areas of fastest AI growth and slower AI growth. CEO Sundar Pichai indicated that search and consumers had faster growth. And enterprise use was slower. Since Alphabet serves both areas that's good. But, it does beg the question about what we may hear from other enterprise only vendors. We shall see.
