Today the ISR Task Force partnered with WTOP News, the Federal News Network, U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, United States Space Force, and Planet Federal to discuss the critical topic of Broad Area Management and its impact on the safety and security of our nation. In the round table discussion, we touched on the imperative of #teamwork in Integrated Deterrence while also discussing some of the more tangible ways the services are investing in solutions to deliver enhanced situational understanding around the world. The US Army Intelligence enterprise, under the direction of Lieutenant General Tony Hale, is working hard to deliver horizontally integrated capabilities at a pace and scale that matches the tempo of the modern operational environment. To optimize these systems, we’ve been directed to develop strategies for wide-adoption and implementation of Artificial Intelligence capabilities into human-centric workflows. Soon the world currency will be measured in TPUs and GPUs. #Data centricity is a thing, and embracing it is what separates visionary leaders from everyone else. We wrap up this week with a conversation with Congressman Ken Calvert (R-CA) - a partner on Capitol Hill who is “all in” on AI investments.

#tactics #choreography #precision #upeepz #paf #strike #mission #perfection Philippine Air Force (PAF) in the 2024 Australian PITCH BLACK Air Exercise The PAF is ramping up training as they prepare to acquire 20 or more multi-role fighter jets (Reuters, 20 July 2024 article by Kristy Needham). Little is known about the PAF tactics, techniques and procedures (TTP). I am still waiting for more info (visuals and reviews from other participants) about their art of executing strike missions. One thing known about Filipinos is they strive for perfection to execute precision and synchronicity. The PAF brought four Korean-built FA-50 to the 2024 PITCH BLACK exercise. Can you imagine augmenting their force with a combination of F-15EX (with jammers) and the F-35 (stealth)? They would come up with a TTP that is well coordinated with precision and synchronicity. If you liken choreography with tactical superiority, just look at the UPeepz performance at Body Rock Asia 2023. You will get an idea how the PAF will plan and execute their strike packages with the FA-50 fighters. *Choreography is applicable to the formation of tactics by understanding the hostile forces capabilities (ISR and weapons employment) to find their vulnerabilities and evaluate ones strengths and weaknesses. By doing so, one can "choreograph" the application of one's strengths to exploit the opposition vulnerabilities. And tailor the TTP to minimize exposure of ones weaknesses. The Philippines don't have the same resources of a major power to build a "gorilla package" to strike targets the way the U.S. Air Force can. [See Package Q Strike (Desert Storm) under Comments section]. Big question: How will the allied forces integrate the strengths and tactics of the PAF in combined air forces operations? And how do you prevent "friendly fire" when your allies have no or a different "identification friend or foe?" Something to think about in future combined air exercises.

DTRA’s Director Rebecca Hersman recently visited the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) for discussions in London, England on July 17. Ms. Hersman leads more than 2,200 military and civilian experts operating in over 50 countries, to provide the United States Department of Defense, the U.S. Government, and international partners with leading-edge capabilities to counter and deter adversary use of WMDs and emerging threats. The fast-evolving threat environment raises new challenges for deterring strategic attacks, preventing WMD proliferation, increasing resilience and dealing with WMD-armed adversaries in crisis and conflict. Previous approaches to risk reduction, arms control and verification may no longer be applicable, but the need to stabilize deterrence relationships and prevent escalation to the level of WMD use remains vitally important. The roundtable served as an opportunity to learn about DTRA’s adaptation to the new strategic circumstances and its current priorities, as the dialogue compared perspectives on the challenges facing the U.S. and its allies. #globalpartners

Such a violation was offset of course by the tremendous advantage of surprise. Something to think about in terms of Multi-Domain Operations. While reviewing guidance about record keeping from the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veteran Affairs (DMVA), we agreed with every statement but one: "Veterans transitioning from the military to civilian life often forget how important it is to properly record and safeguard their important military paperwork such as the DD214, DD215 [Correction to a DD214] or NGB22, for future use. Failure to properly secure this paperwork can lead to it being lost, resulting in a frantic search when it is needed. ...The easiest way to manage military documents is to make sure they are filed in a safe place upon leaving the military." (Copied 04/18/24 from https://lnkd.in/g9r5KYPu) Here's the SINGLE WORD we would change: "...The easiest way to manage military documents is to make sure they are filed in a safe place upon ENTERING the military." Meaning, develop the habit of organization at the beginning of your career, and build upon it. Making sure personal records and service history are in order only -after- getting that DD214 is a reactive and often problem-causing way (per the DMVA's own admission) to handle crucial military records. Servicemembers (and their spouses or other family members) should receive encouragement, guidance, and the resources to begin proper tracking of service history in all categories from the beginning of their service, not the end. Not because the VA isn't already storing electronic copies (for post-2010 discharged vets or NARA for pre-2010), but because systems can and do fail. Electronic records can be and are sometimes incorrect, incomplete, or missing. Hey, even because massive fires. #1973 Servicemembers should be more encouraged and better taught how to manage their critical personal information, and to do so immediately upon entering the service, not leaving it. Senate NDAA Approved by SASC The Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC) approved an $878.4 billion FY 2025 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), an amount that surpasses the White House request and the cap set as part of debt-ceiling negotiations by about $25 billion. The panel voted 22-3 behind closed doors to advance the legislation, with Chairman Jack Reed (D-R.I.) voting against his committee’s bill because the topline authorization increase goes against the spending caps in law. The bill does the following: No TRICARE fee increase; Provides a 4.5% annual active duty pay raise; Increases junior enlisted (E-1 through E-3) pay by an additional 1% (totaling 5.5%); Authorizes service members without dependents who live in military unaccompanied housing to be paid higher rates of partial BAH; Increases funding to repair and improve barracks; Requires the registration of women for Selective Service; Establishes the Commission on Quality of Life for the All-Volunteer Armed Force to assess quality of life considerations for the military and civilian workforces. The bill will now go to the Senate floor for further consideration. Members can refer to last week’s Newsbytes for the provisions of the House-passed bill. The SASC bill is woefully inadequate compared to the House-passed bill pertaining to active duty pay and benefits. Transition of Operation Inherent Resolve to U.S.-Iraq Bilateral Security Partnership to be Announced Next Week, Officials Say | Sept. 20, 2024 | By Matthew Olay, DOD News The United States is on track to announce next week the transition of the military's anti-ISIS mission in Iraq to a bilateral defense partnership between the two countries, a pair of officials close to the matter told the media today. The announcement would come 10 years after the U.S.' establishment of the multi-national Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS and its military component, Combined Joint Task Force — Operation Inherent Resolve. Talks about transitioning the military mission to a bilateral defense partnership began between the U.S. and Iraq in April. Although specific details concerning transitioning from CJTF-OIR to a bilateral partnership are still evolving, a senior administration official said that there is a broad consensus between all coalition members that the coalition will continue with its work well into the future. "[The commission does] extraordinary work in terms of counter-terrorist financing, counter-foreign fighter flow … sharing information [and] sharing intelligence," the official said, adding that the transition to a bilateral partnership is a way to deepen and enhance the coalition and cooperation between its member countries, as well as a means of strengthening the U.S.' relationship with Iraq. The official also made clear that, no matter what shape the future bilateral agreement takes — and regardless of whether other coalition countries move on from Iraq after 10 years — the U.S. remains committed to defeating ISIS. "I think it's fair to say we've had great success in territorially defeating ISIS in the core regions of Iraq and Syria. However, we are all very aware that with ISIS, you can [often] say [they're] down, but they're never quite out," the official said. "We remain fully committed to the defeat of ISIS … That is what we're working on in Iraq and northeast Syria," the official continued. What is the best type of data analysis needed by a Colombian Marine Corps battalion? First, the commander must define what the battalion's objective is and what tools are available to achieve it. Data analysis allows you to know how the battalion is performing on a day-to-day basis, to identify problems, focus effort, make decisions and evaluate results. The Military Commander, nowadays, must permanently analyze the unit, generally we only give them orders and expect positive results but we do not analyze the process. Times have changed, and command processes must innovate as well.
