Enterprise Bets on a Dark Horse Back in 2020, Houston-based Piñon Midstream set out to cure a massive headache for producers in Perm Town’s most prolific eastern flank of the Delaware in N.M., and Texas—namely, the lack of infrastructure to gather and treat pervasive sour gas. Solving that problem would no doubt be a grand introduction into the nation’s hottest play. Solving another would be even grander. So, in 2021, Piñon unveiled two of three plants comprising its Dark Horse sour gas treating and CCS facility in Lea County, N.M. At the time, Dark Horse offered amine treating capacity of 170 MMCFD, the state’s largest and deepest acid gas injection well, and CO2 and H2S capture and sequestration. Expansions would continue over the years. And at least one of the Big Five midstream operators was closely watching. Reese Energy Consulting today is following the latest news from Houston-based Enterprise Products, which has found a red-carpet entry into this slice of the Delaware with a $950 million acquisition of Piñon Midstream. This, Enterprise says, saves the company three to four years building out itself. Pinion’s Dark Horse is the largest facility of its kind in N.M., sitting fat and happy in an area where drilling has been largely restricted due to the lack of sour gas treating and acid gas injection capacity. And where more than 7,500 remaining well locations wait to be loved. The deal with Piñon includes 50 miles of gathering and redelivery pipe, five 3-stage compressor stations, two of the Delaware’s highest capacity and deepest acid injection wells at 18,000’, and 270 MMCFD of H2S and CO2 treating facilities. Expansions to 450 MMCFD are slated for completion next year. Enterprise reports adding a third injection well to increase capacity to 750 MMCFD. What do you think? Accuracy is everything. Had the pleasure of having one of the most easy, productive, and collaborative conversations with one of our industry’s brightest minds Steven Ko. From his chemical engineering background, to formerly the VP of Completions of EQT Corporation, to his current role at Rivitt(if you don’t know of Rivitt I suggest you spend some time and look into them; impressive stuff) Steven reminded me of something that the majority tend to forget. Which was a breath of fresh air in my opinion to hear. Without accuracy, and without the professionals in the engineering space that actually care about the accuracy of the data we are putting together. What are we really trying to accomplish? The reality is the paradigms has shifted. It used to be drilling the well was the most important aspect. But there is a stronger argument to be made on the fact it’s the completions processes that are the most important. From the Frac to the drillout. There is nothing more important than accuracy for the Frac in the formation. Yet how can we have accuracy when E&P’s have gotten accustomed to the status-quo of inaccurate information without pushing for better, more accurate, innovation? We talk about K factors, SOP’s, recalibrations of surface equipment and the list goes on. What those small changes can do for the accuracy and our industry as a whole. We have engineers in the labs spending thousands and thousands of man hours doing sampling to get the most accurate information possible. But is any of it being done in the field? Those of us who have spent extensive time in the field do know the answer. It’s disappointing. While the automated acid blending system dubbed #AcidCannon I designed, developed, and patented is just the start of what goals I have. I(along with Steven and several others I know) want to change the perspective that we have when we look at the completions “eco system”. Mine is just a small part of innovation. Upwards and onwards. But the start happens at the discussions/conversations that’s where we truly begin to make change happen.

About a week from now Spears & Associates will start sending out our quarterly reports on a couple dozen oilfield service and equipment markets. Cementing is my responsibility (I was once upon a time a moderately skilled cementer for Halliburton in what is today called the SCOOP/STACK). This particular report will show that the two US Land market leaders - HAL & SLB - focus on the largest, most active E&P companies...a fact that we all know, but here's the math: 15 E&P companies represent HALF the spending on cementing services this year (EOG, Exxon, Chevron...). Of these top 15 customers, HAL + SLB win 70% of their cementing work. Of the next 1000 customers HAL + SLB win 45%. As the top end of the E&P world consolidates, SLB + HAL cementers will benefit. PS: Each cementing service company has excellent cementers and engineers and we think that most cementing service companies have the people and the equipment to cement the toughest of horizontal wells. The differentiation is this: SLB and HAL are particularly good at working inside the major oil companies' operations and procurement groups.

𝗛𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗽𝘀 Petroleum traps are geological formations that contain accumulations of oil and gas, making them essential targets for hydrocarbon exploration. Understanding the different types of petroleum traps is crucial for identifying potential reservoirs and optimizing exploration strategies. In this article, we will discuss the main types of petroleum traps, their characteristics, and their significance in the search for oil and gas reserves. *1. Structural Traps* Structural traps are formed by deformation of the Earth's crust, resulting in folds, faults, and other structural features that trap hydrocarbons. The most common types of structural traps include: - **Anticline Traps:** These traps form in areas where rock layers have been folded into an upward arch-like structure called an anticline. Hydrocarbons migrate upwards through permeable reservoir rocks and become trapped beneath impermeable cap rocks. - **Fault Traps:** Faults are fractures in the Earth's crust where movement has occurred. Fault traps occur when hydrocarbons are displaced along fault lines and become trapped against impermeable barriers. *2. Stratigraphic Traps* Stratigraphic traps are formed by variations in the sedimentary rock layers that make up the Earth's crust. These traps are less dependent on structural deformation and more on the characteristics of the sedimentary sequence. Common types of stratigraphic traps include: - **Lenticular Sands:** These traps occur when permeable sandstone layers "pinch out" or terminate abruptly, creating a localized accumulation of hydrocarbons. - **Carbonate Buildups:** In carbonate reservoirs, hydrocarbons can accumulate in porous structures such as reefs, shoals, and buildups formed by the accumulation of calcium carbonate. *3. Combination Traps* Combination traps are traps that exhibit characteristics of both structural and stratigraphic traps. They often result from a combination of structural deformation and variations in sedimentary deposition. Combination traps can be particularly complex and may require sophisticated exploration techniques to identify and assess. *4. Unconventional Traps* Unconventional traps refer to reservoirs that do not fit neatly into the categories of structural or stratigraphic traps. These include unconventional hydrocarbon resources such as shale gas, tight gas, and coalbed methane. The trapping mechanisms in unconventional reservoirs often involve factors such as organic richness, natural fractures, and matrix porosity.
