Our communities are evolving. Fear and innovation don’t go together. Yet in most organizations, change creates a lot of fear. Something I’ve learned driving digital transformation across many banks and credit unions? Our solutions need to consider emotional factors first. When we create a culture of excitement and opportunity for adopting new tools or tech… We get more buy-in. And buy-in makes implementation easier. Focusing on this is always worth it.

Too many banks and credit unions can’t distinguish between their good and their great customers. The 80/20 rule is a real thing… At most FIs, it’s more like 90/10. "I wish the CDFI industry would realize how much we’re leaving on the table when we limit the tools that we’re using only to support entrepreneurship. Not all people from low-income communities are or want to become entrepreneurs. Borrowers served by CDFIs should not be incentivized to start businesses simply because capital may be available to them. However, they will almost certainly benefit from not having to rely on payday lenders and fringe financial service providers. Consumer lending has so much value and ability to drive impact for people who are low-income and credit-thin.    CDFIs are investing in making communities healthy; however, it often seems that, as an industry, we could do more to prevent predatory lenders from extracting funds from vulnerable populations." - Kasra Movahedi CDFI Credit unions provide a vast majority of all consumer lending attributed to all CDFIs. CFPB launches process to recognize open banking standards The CFPB has introduced a new rule requiring standard setters to demonstrate certain attributes. These standards can help implement the Personal Financial Data Rights rule and accelerate the financial system's move towards open banking. The CFPB will not recognize organizations rigged in favor of industry players, and the process must be open to all interested parties. The standard-setting body must use documented policies, provide ample notice, review drafts, and access to other participants' views.
