The benefit to upgrading is you get to keep using drupal safely. If you want to keep your website, upgrading your site is not optional. A Drupal site build isn't done unless it is upgradable. We must promote an upgrade-friendly mindset. Otherwise it's always seen as extra work, or an unknown challenge. This leads to stagnation. Even minor updates don't happen. Developers afraid to even try the upgraded version. The solution? Always have an upgrade branch ready, always set up CI and QC so you can merge and deploy with confidence.

The client's website conversions have been down 50% since they launched a refreshed website. The question I was brought in to help answer: Why? I was doing a preliminary review of their website, desktop and mobile, when I found something alarming. The top call to action (CTA) on their mobile site links to a development server. Any potential customer who clicks that CTA is most likely a lost customer. Since 65% of the client's web traffic is on mobile, this is probably the root of their decreased conversion rate. Moral of the story: Check ALL the links, desktop and mobile. Check all the transactions and forms. Anything that is vital to your business or customer success is vital to test.

See that subject line? That's for a complaint to our developer. For context, our house is still under warranty, is less than a year, and for some strange freaking reason, the second floor bathroom just kept leaking. Now, the first time I sent them a complaint letter back in May, it took them DAYS to reply. This one? The day after. I was like, wow, improvement. But then again, if I think about it , the first subject line I sent them was "Repairs and Warranty." Which could mean so many things. - Was I inquiring about how long I could get repair under warranty? - Could it be a complaint? - Something else? No sense of urgency or emotion, am I right? Ah, but this recent one I sent them... Well, I think it cut to the core of my problem. No self-respecting developer who prides itself as being one of the best in the country would ignore this slight to their built property, right? And that's how you get people to open your emails: by crafting subject lines that are crystal clear, emotionally resonant, and communicate a sense of urgency. You want to trigger their curiosity, pique their interest, or even evoke a bit of anxiety - anything that compels them to click and see what's inside. The subject line is your email's first impression, so make it count!

In my work with nonprofits, one thing I’ve learned is how important it is to show the people behind the organization. Picture this: You visit a website you want to support a cause, but you don’t see any faces or stories. You feel unsure and hesitant. Now, imagine a different website where you see pictures of the team, board members, and volunteers. You read about their journeys and why they care about the cause. You feel connected and build trust. People are more likely to support a nonprofit when they know who’s behind the scenes. Showing your team and their story can make viewers more supportive. Can we talk about the revision process for a second? As a #freelance designer//videographer, I get that making sure you love the final product is super important - that’s literally what you’re paying me for. But there’s a fine line (honestly probably more of a gray area) between making things better and getting stuck in a never-ending cycle of changes. Multiple revisions are normal and necessary, but if there aren’t clear limits, revisions can drag on forever, which isn't good for anyone. That’s why it’s so important to agree on an SOW (set boundaries) early on. It’s not as simple as “pay more, get more”… If we keep adding more revisions, the project can take longer than planned, which might mean rushing the final product or missing deadlines altogether. At the end of the day, getting the work done right and on time is more valuable than blowing the budget on endless changes. Ever finish a site and it just feels...blah? You know that feeling. You've poured hours into a website – code's clean, layout's decent, everything works. But deep down, there's a nagging sense that it's just...boring. Been there, done that. I've made four home pages for my portfolio, and none of them felt good enough. For me, the issue was, I was forgetting those delightful little touches that bring a site to life. Micro-interactions are a HUGE part of this. Think about the tiny moments of animation and feedback: 🔹A subtle glow on a hovered butto 🔹A progress bar with a playful bounce 🔹A form error that's helpful, not just jarring. But why stop there? What about: 🔹A menu icon that transforms into a close button when clicked 🔹A photo carousel with smooth transitions between images 🔹A subtle parallax effect as you scroll down the page These details may seem small, but they subconsciously tell the user, "This was built with care."
