enCore Energy celebrated the restart of the Alta Mesa Plant and Wellfield in south Texas on October 3rd, featuring an exclusive conversation with George W. Bush, 43rd President of the United States. 🇺🇸 enCore Energy’s In-Situ Recovery Uranium Processing Plants play a significant role in the local economy; enCore has a workforce of 134 employees, the majority of whom attended the Grand Opening. 👏 With the restart of Alta Mesa (as well as the Rosita Plant that restarted last year), enCore creates new jobs, affording local residents the convenience of working nearby and reducing the necessity for long-distance travel. The Texas oil and natural gas industry is at a place where technological advancements and shifting policies are converging. While production efficiency is soaring, upstream employment has been volatile. The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) initially reported a decrease of 2,000 upstream oil and natural gas jobs in June, which marked the fifth decline in the last six months. However, this was later revised by TWC to reflect a gain of 1,400 jobs in June, along with an increase of 1,600 jobs in July. Even with this revision and the jobs gained in July, at 194,100 total upstream jobs, compared to the same month last year, July 2024 jobs were down by 4,900, or 2.5%. To sustain Texas’s position as a leader in energy production, policy decisions must strike a balance between encouraging industry growth and addressing environmental and regulatory concerns. These partnerships with CleanCo Energie, Inc, EarthBridge Energy, Melzer Consulting and Omnia Midstream Partners complement our existing relationships and accelerate our mission to drive advanced energy innovation in the Permian Basin. "These new partnerships bring together some of the most innovative minds in energy," said Marilu Hastings, president of the PEDL board of directors. "We're not just talking about the future of energy – we're building it in the Permian Basin, creating opportunity for communities in the process." In a surprising turn, Texas regulators have rejected a significant 1.3-gigawatt natural gas-fired power plant project's request for state funding. The Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) declined the NextEra Energy Resources and Aegle Power application, citing a failure to meet the rigorous due diligence requirements for the In-ERCOT Generation Loan Program. This decision follows shortly after the project was initially shortlisted to receive low-interest loans from the Texas Energy Fund. Adding to the complexities, NextEra Energy Resources clarified that their name was included without their consent in the Aegle Power application. This prompted them to request immediate removal from any association with the project in PUCT records. This development highlights potential oversight and communication gaps in the funding application processes. As the state continues to evaluate other proposals under the newly established Texas Energy Fund, which is aimed at supporting the expansion and modernization of Texas's electric facilities, this decision raises questions about the strategic direction and criteria influencing funding approvals. With ERCOT predicting a doubling in electricity demand within six years, the urgency to increase generation capacity remains high. The denial of funding for this project could signal a shift toward more stringent vetting processes or a realignment of energy priorities in Texas. It has been a busy week for Nexus Holdings! Following a $140MM raise for Nexus W2V, Nexus Holdings announced the debut of its subsidiary, Pathway Energy, a developer of carbon-negative fuels projects. Pathway aims to decarbonize the aviation industry by producing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) that actually abates emissions through carbon capture and sequestration.  Not only did Pathway Energy unveil its plans to build a $2B manufacturing facility in the Gulf Coast, but it also announced its landmark feedstock partnership with biomass provider Drax Group. Leveraging wood pellets sourced from Drax, Pathway plans to produce 30 million gallons of sustainable aviation fuel annually from its first plant, equivalent to abating the carbon emissions of 6,000 long-haul flights. ‘Tis the Season for Midstream Deals and Decisions in the Permian Jingle bells are ringing this week in the Land of Oil and Gas A-plenty where midstream operators are already unwrapping holiday gifts. Reese Energy Consulting today is following the latest from the Permian, starting with Midland, Texas-based rockstars Kinetik Midstream and E&P Permian Resources. Kinetik, which in short order has become the Delaware’s largest independent gatherer and processor, operates 4,600+ miles of natural gas and crude oil pipe, and six gas plants with another under construction and another one planned. The company in 3Q reported $83.7 million in net income—a 94% increase year over year—and fattened its stake in Diamondback Energy’s EPIC crude pipeline to 27.5%. Kinetik will now further expand its “super system” in a $180 million bolt-on deal for Permian Resources’ Delaware oil and gas midstream assets. Kinetik gains 60,000 gross acres dedicated by Permian Resources under long-term, fixed-fee agreements that include 150 MMCFD and an estimated 250 MBPD next year, 250 MMCFD of compression, and natural gas processing. For its part, Permian Resources is sticking to its guns to remain the Delaware’s lowest-cost operator. This, after announcing a third consecutive increase to its full-year production targets and 160.8 MBPD announced in 3Q. Rock on, rockstars. Energy Transfer meanwhile has gifted Permian producers with a FID on the formerly named Warrior natural gas pipeline project. Now known as the Hugh Brinson, the 400-mile pipeline will flow an initial 1.5 BCFD from the Waha Hub to its pipeline connection south of Fort Worth.
