US Navy Chief Yeoman Jasmine LaRue, from Mobile, Alabama, has been serving for 12 years and is currently with Naval Special Warfare Command - Navy SEAL & SWCC Teams. We asked about her #CallToService, career progression, and how time in uniform has changed her. "My call to service is being a servant leader and making sure our #Sailors have all the support they need to support and complete the mission. When I joined back in 2012, I had no real goals or aspirations and made that decision because I did not want to go to college and did not want to stay in my hometown." #ForgedByTheSea "I have a goal I would like to reach before retiring and that’s to become a Command Senior Chief or a Command Master Chief, because in the current climate, it is getting harder for Sailors to continue in service and persevere through, in many cases at no fault of their own, in many cases it’s the leadership." #WhyIServe "I believe I can use my call to service to show Sailors there is leadership out there that cares and that they are not just a quota to meet or a billet to fill. I feel I can best do that as a Command Senior Chief or Master Chief." #Transform "I have changed in so many ways that even I still cannot believe it. I’m a college graduate now and I have been able to come out of my comfort zone and have many exuberating experiences. I have also become a person that strives to do and be more and I would describe myself as ambitious now compared to my past self." #People "Something I would like to share with anyone interested in joining the forces is to form your own opinions off your personal experiences. Negativity can spread like wildfire when you surround yourself with the wrong crowd. Surround yourself with personnel who have good character and have your best interest in mind. It may not feel like it at times but remember that what you do is important no matter how minute you may think it is, because we each are a small piece of the bigger puzzle and working together is what will help complete the mission. Most importantly, stay true to yourself and your personal values as a human, and always make time to take of your mind, body, and soul."

As Iran’s missiles and drones headed for Israel, the Navy AN/SPY-1 radars start displaying and linking a picture of what’s in the air and where the attack was heading. It’s like watching an outfielder catch a baseball pop-fly. Iran’s obvious preparation and big launches gave defenders ample time. An hour is a long time in missile defense. It’s part art, part science, but efficient missile warning allowed a big chunk of the drones and missiles to be intercepted in flight. The US Navy was part of Israel's anti-missile shield against Iran. In a previous attack, the Navy stopped Iran from taking over two tankers in Gulf of Oman. Airborne fighter planes pointed their highly sensitive, long-range radars to pick up Iran’s salvos. U.S. Navy F/A-18s from the aircraft carrier Dwight D. Eisenhower swung into action. Controllers passed missile and drone track locations which then appeared on cockpit radars."

🚤 Enhancing Sailor Readiness with Advanced Training 🚤 The Center for Security Forces (CENSECFOR) has successfully piloted Phase II of the Basic Small Craft Operator (BSCO) course, held at Learning Site Little Creek in Virginia Beach, VA! This hands-on course provides Sailors with the essential skills and knowledge needed for craft-specific qualifications, strengthening fleet readiness and safety. "Revisions to the course schedule have greatly improved training effectiveness, allowing Sailors to apply classroom concepts in real-world environments much sooner," said David Postupack, Small Boat Program Manager at CENSECFOR. BSCO Phase I covers foundational seamanship, navigation, and boat handling, while Phase II builds on these skills through intensive lab and ocean training. Graduates of both phases are set to test for the Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels certification, a key qualification for Navy small craft operators. With the rise of low-cost, weaponized drones posing a significant threat to U.S. troops abroad, the Pentagon is exploring various strategies to defend against these aerial dangers. Traditional methods, such as using expensive munitions and developing complex directed-energy weapons, have shown promise but also limitations due to cost, complexity, and maintenance challenges. As a result, the Department of Defense is considering simpler, more accessible options to counter the growing drone menace, and this shift has led to renewed interest in adapting small arms technology to create efficient anti-drone solutions. At the recent Technology Readiness Experimentation (T-REX) event, the Pentagon introduced a groundbreaking innovation: an AI-driven autonomous robotic gun system known as the “Bullfrog.” Developed by Allen Control Systems, this system represents a modernized approach to small arms, combining traditional machine gun technology with advanced AI and computer vision capabilities. The Bullfrog features a 7.62-mm M240 machine gun mounted on a rotating turret, integrated with electro-optical sensors and proprietary AI, designed to track and engage drone targets with high precision. The Bullfrog’s AI-enhanced targeting system enables it to achieve levels of accuracy that far surpass what human operators can accomplish with standard-issue weapons. By leveraging computer vision, the Bullfrog can identify, track, and neutralize drones autonomously, offering a faster and more accurate response to airborne threats. This innovation reflects a practical shift in military technology: instead of relying solely on futuristic weaponry, the Pentagon is adapting familiar tools, like the machine gun, to meet contemporary challenges through the power of AI and automation.
