🗞️ NEWS -- Max Power Mining Corp (CSE: MAXX) | (OTC: MAXXF) and Larin Engineering HHC have commenced a comprehensive Natural Hydrogen study of the entire state of Texas using proprietary methods. The study, aimed at prioritizing prospective Natural Hydrogen targets for near-term potential land acquisitions and exploration, will serve as a model that can quickly be scaled up to encompass vast sections of the United States. ⏺️ Texas is already America’s top producer of manufactured hydrogen and currently features a vast hydrogen pipeline network stretching for 1,600 miles in addition to an abundance of other hydrogen-related infrastructure as well as existing and potential offtakers. In short, Houston is the energy capital of the world but the broader state has been underexplored for the potential of hosting accumulations of naturally occurring hydrogen gas as recently discovered elsewhere in the world. BREAKING: Peabody to acquire steelmaking coal assets from Anglo American in a $3.78 billion deal that accelerates its strategy to reweight its global coal portfolio toward seaborne metallurgical coal, the company said Monday. Peabody has agreed to pay cash of $2,320 million, comprised of cash of $1,695 million at closing and deferred payments of $625 million. Peabody (BTU) has also agreed to further contingent payments of up to $1 billion, with the deal expected to close mid-2025. Proceeds to Anglo American would also include $455 million made possible by the acquisition of Dawson Mine by PT Bukit Makmur Mandiri Utama in a back-to-back transaction. The acquisition includes four metallurgical coal mines – Moranbah North, Grosvenor, Aquila, and Capcoal – located in Australia's Bowen Basin, which is widely recognized for the world's highest-quality steelmaking coal. Peabody (BTU) expects the deal to bolster its metallurgical coal segment, increasing production from an estimated 7.4 million tons in 2024 to an expected 21 – 22 million tons in 2026. THREE BIG AUTO OEMS TARGET NEW MARKETS FOR FUEL CELLS (Part 2 of a post looking at how Toyota, Hyundai and GM have expanded their fuel cell focus beyond passenger cars) HYUNDAI - In January of this year, Hyundai announced the expansion of its HTWO fuel cell brand focused on autos to encompass the full hydrogen ecosystem including production, storage, transportation and utilization. - As part of that announcement, Hyundai announced that it would develop a PEM electrolyzer product and would also participate in localized production projects in Indonesia and the US. - In May, Hyundai completed an acquisition of fuel cell related assets from its affiliated parts supplier Hyundai Mobis. The stated rationale for the transaction was to consolidate hydrogen related R&D, product design and marketing under a unified management structure. - In conjunction with the reorganization, Hyundai formed a new “Hydrogen Fuel Cell Process Quality Office” focused on maintaining Hyundai’s “leadership in the hydrogen ecosystem” and better defined the Company’s new market focus as expanding beyond vehicles to include hydrogen production, power generation, trams, port, ships and advanced air mobility. - Hyundai has been testing its Xcient Class 8 Trucks in Switzerland since 2020 and currently has 48 units on the road there that very recently surpassed 10 million kilometers in aggregate distance traveled. - 30 Xcients were deployed in California in May and Xcients have also been operating in Germany, Israel and Saudi Arabia. GENERAL MOTORS (GM) - In January of this year, a 50/50 JV between GM and Honda launched an $85 million fuel cell manufacturing facility in Michigan. - Honda will use fuel cells from the factory for its CR-V passenger car that will be available for lease in CA later this year and recently unveiled a concept Class 8 fuel cell truck with a fully loaded range of 400 miles. - With funding from DOE, GM is separately introducing a medium duty truck that will use the Silverado pick-up frame and has an agreement with a Georgia Utility to incorporate the trucks into its service fleet for testing. - GM is further developing fuel cell applications for the trucking, aerospace and rail markets in partnership with Navistar, Liebherr and Wabtec, respectively. - GM has licensed its PEM technology to Nel ASA for incorporation into Nel’s PEM electrolyzer product that is manufactured in the US. As part of the partnership, Nel will provide hydrogen and fueling equipment to the Georgia utility that is testing GM’s fuel cell trucks. #hydrogen #fuelcells #toyota #hyundai #generalmotors #gm #hyliko #vdlgroep #corvus #paccar #kenworth #hexagonpurus #fuelcellenergy #daimlertruck #beijingsinohytec #honda #navistar #liebherr #wabtec #nel #ANDnotOR

Governor Newsom of California seems to have it out for the oil companies. He plans on imposing a tax on refineries’ gross margins, which is the difference between wholesale gasoline and crude prices. Keep in mind that refineries do operate on a rather thin margin and I believe this new tax will ultimately be passed on to consumers at the pump. It’s also important to note there is a difference between gross margin and operating margin. Gross margin does not account for operating costs like employee pay. According to the commission’s data, refiners lost between 10 and 38 cents on each gallon they produced from October 2023 through February 2024, while their gross margins ranged from 56 to 79 cents a gallon. In December, California refineries lost 31 cents a gallon while the state imposed $1.15 a gallon in taxes and regulatory fees. This will also come around the same time that the California Air Resources Board prepares to tighten its low carbon fuel standard and greenhouse emission cap. These regulations currently add around $0.54 to the price of a gallon of gasoline. New rules could increase the price of gas by an estimated $0.88 per gallon in 2026 and rise to over a dollar by 2031. California refineries also supply about 90% of Nevada’s gasoline and half of Arizona’s gasoline, so they will also see price increases. Keep in mind they’re not going to be reducing any taxes and while the cost of true gasoline may stabilize or come down in the future people in California could be paying $6-$7 a gallon for gas while the rest of country is paying roughly half of that. And who does this hurt the most? The lower and middle-class. Reality is slowly setting in with energy markets regarding renewables. Shareholders of large companies are getting slammed. Causes? Largely, bad government policies and China. And the China part tracks back to bad government policies. Article -- Last week, Shell took a $780 million impairment after pausing construction on a Dutch plant that was meant to become one of Europe’s biggest biofuel facilities. BP abandoned plans for two out of five potential biofuel refineries . . . Fitch Ratings has affirmed JSC Almalyk Mining And Metallurgical Complex rating at 'BB-' with a stable outlook. Fitch Ratings has affirmed the long-term issuer default rating (IDR) of JSC Almalyk Mining And Metallurgical Complex at 'BB-' with a stable outlook (in line with Fitch's international rating for #Uzbekistan). Fitch assesses the combine's standalone credit profile (SCP) as 'b+', reflecting its small but growing scale of operations, commodity diversification across copper, gold, zinc and silver, favourable core asset cost position, long reserve life and moderate leverage. #AGMK's production (149,000 tonnes of copper and 0.5 million ounces of gold) is higher than Hudbay's (132,000 tonnes of copper and 0.2 million ounces of gold) but significantly lower than FQM and Freeport, which are among the world's top 10 copper producers. FQM produced 707,678 tonnes in 2023, while Freeport produced 1.2 million tonnes. The #Yoshlik project is a landmark copper, gold and silver project for the plant and the country's mining industry, which will double production and diversify the company's assets. The $4.8 billion first phase of the project includes a new mine and processing plant that will significantly increase copper production to 264,000 tonnes (t) by 2026 (up 78% from 2023) and gold production to over 800,000 ounces by 2026 (up 50%). The second phase, which includes the construction of a new copper smelter at approximately $1 billion, is expected to increase #AGMK's smelting capacity. Until the smelter is completed, the company will sell copper concentrate.

Quantum Capital Group to acquire Cogentrix Energy, LLC from The Carlyle Group for $3 billion - Quantum Capital Group has announced an agreement to acquire Cogentrix Energy from Carlyle for approximately $3 billion. - Cogentrix operates 5.3 gigawatts of natural gas-fired power plants across various U.S. regions, enhancing the electricity market's reliability and affordability. - The acquisition will keep Cogentrix's current CEO John Ragan and the management team in leadership positions. - Quantum's CEO Wil VanLoh emphasized the need for reliable power infrastructure amid rising electricity demand and grid instability. - Michael MacDougall from Quantum highlighted plans to grow Cogentrix with a focus on gas-fired power generation, renewables, and battery storage. - Carlyle's Matt O’Connor stated that the transaction benefits all parties and supports Cogentrix's growth in the power sector. - Carlyle's Pooja Goyal remarked on the successful establishment of decarbonization goals for Cogentrix’s assets. - John Ragan appreciated Carlyle's support and expressed confidence in Quantum's ability to add value post-acquisition. - Guggenheim acted as financial advisor for Quantum, while King & Spalding and Vinson & Elkins provided legal counsel. - Lazard served as Carlyle's financial advisor, with Latham & Watkins as legal advisor. - The transaction is pending regulatory approvals and is expected to close between late 2024 and early 2025. - Quantum Capital Group has managed over $27 billion in equity commitments since its founding in 1998. - Cogentrix, established in 1983, specializes in the development and operation of power generation assets in the U.S. - Carlyle is a global investment firm managing $435 billion in assets as of June 30, 2024. https://lnkd.in/grqZns3w
