‘Tis the Season for Midstream Deals and Decisions in the Permian Jingle bells are ringing this week in the Land of Oil and Gas A-plenty where midstream operators are already unwrapping holiday gifts. Reese Energy Consulting today is following the latest from the Permian, starting with Midland, Texas-based rockstars Kinetik Midstream and E&P Permian Resources. Kinetik, which in short order has become the Delaware’s largest independent gatherer and processor, operates 4,600+ miles of natural gas and crude oil pipe, and six gas plants with another under construction and another one planned. The company in 3Q reported $83.7 million in net income—a 94% increase year over year—and fattened its stake in Diamondback Energy’s EPIC crude pipeline to 27.5%. Kinetik will now further expand its “super system” in a $180 million bolt-on deal for Permian Resources’ Delaware oil and gas midstream assets. Kinetik gains 60,000 gross acres dedicated by Permian Resources under long-term, fixed-fee agreements that include 150 MMCFD and an estimated 250 MBPD next year, 250 MMCFD of compression, and natural gas processing. For its part, Permian Resources is sticking to its guns to remain the Delaware’s lowest-cost operator. This, after announcing a third consecutive increase to its full-year production targets and 160.8 MBPD announced in 3Q. Rock on, rockstars. Energy Transfer meanwhile has gifted Permian producers with a FID on the formerly named Warrior natural gas pipeline project. Now known as the Hugh Brinson, the 400-mile pipeline will flow an initial 1.5 BCFD from the Waha Hub to its pipeline connection south of Fort Worth. Phase I completion is expected by year end 2026 to be followed by Phase II which will increase capacity to 2.2 BCFD. Jingle all the way. What do you think? More Smokin’ Hot Deals to Be Had in the Lone Star State Reese Energy Consulting today is following the latest buzz from the nation’s largest oil-producing state where the Texas horse trading continues among midstreamers and Eagle Ford producers. First up is Houston-based Phillips 66 (PSX), which operates a midstream powerhouse with 72,000 miles of crude oil, natural gas, and NGL pipelines, along with fractionation and gas processing—all of which serve its diverse business segment to include chemicals and refining. After a years’ long JV courtship, PSX last year acquired DCP Midstream for $3.8 billion to further beef up its NGL business following record fractionated volumes and growing export demand. The company will now add even more meat to its NGL bones in the Permian Midland with the pick-up of Pinnacle Midstream for $550 million. The deal includes the Dos Pico processing complex with 220 MMCFD of capacity, ample space for a second 220 MMCFD gas plant, and 80 miles of pipeline. In short order Houston-based WildFire Energy LLC has shrewdly executed its pure-play South Texas strategy to create the largest consolidated acreage position in the Eagle Ford. The company has now landed its fourth acquisition in three years, this time in a deal with Apache Corporation. The price was not disclosed but wraps up Apache’s non-core asset sale that fetched a total $750 million. Wildfire will gain 237,000 net acres, 11 MBOED, and interests in 465 wells. Pro forma, the company will operate 850,000 net acres, 50 MBOED, and more than 2,000 gross wells. What do you think? Among Texas Wildcatters, There’s No One Like the Fearless Rod Lewis One of the best things to discover from a news piece reporting a new oil and gas deal is the story that lies behind it no one’s talking about. That is unless one is inclined to dive deeper to understand the decision maker behind the deal. Reese Energy Consulting today has done just that to feature a fearless, larger-than-life Texas wildcatter billionaire behind the wheel of his 35-year-old company who continues to bet big beyond the border. REC today is following the latest news from Lewis Energy Group (LEG), one of South Texas’ largest gas producers. No secret to folks in the Eagle Ford, the San Antonio-based LEG has never been content to limit the geography of its oil and gas thrill-seeking. Those decisions would fall to its leader, Rod Lewis—coined by Forbes as the “only gringo allowed to drill in Mexico”—who became the first U.S. producer to sign a contract with PEMEX in 2004. And more (ad)ventures lay ahead to include natural gas operations off the coast of Colombia and now Lewis’s latest cold plunge into politically-turmoiled Venezuela with a PDVSA deal to rehab five oilfields in decline—two of which currently produce 3 MBPD. The Biden administration on April 17 ended a sanctions waiver on Venezuelan oil. Lewis and his latest mission to build Latin America’s next energy platform are equally fascinating. Born in the border town of Laredo, Lewis launched his company in 1983 with a single gas well in South Texas and a hellbent ethos to control his own destiny. Over 35 years, he’s proved a quintuple threat stateside with the whole wellhead-to-market enchilada that includes a fleet of drilling rigs, oilfield services, saltwater disposal, end-to-end midstream services, and commodity marketing. 🎥 "LandMan" - A Safety Professional's Perspective 🚧 As I dive into LandMan, I can’t help but yell at the screen, frustrated by the glaring safety missteps. These moments highlight the importance of proper safety protocols and the life-saving difference they can make: 1️⃣ "Why aren’t they wearing 4-gas monitors?!" Those roughnecks might still be alive if they had LEL sensors instead of single-gas H2S monitors. 2️⃣ "Get that monitor off your hard hat!" Gas monitors belong in your breathing zone, not on your head. 3️⃣ "Is that single-gas monitor even ON?!" A silent, inactive monitor is as good as no monitor at all. 4️⃣ "Stay off those loose pipes!" That scene ended exactly how I expected—preventable and tragic. 5️⃣ "Where’s the Blackline Safety cloud-connected tech?" GPS, instant alerts, and live monitoring could transform safety on this job site. Watching these situations reminds me how critical it is to provide workers with the right tools and training to keep them safe. These errors aren’t just dramatic TV moments—they’re real-world risks that we have the technology to solve. Let’s learn from these fictional mishaps to improve real-life outcomes. Newly released data from the Texas Workforce Commission indicates upstream oil and gas employment fell again in June, with a decline of 2,000 jobs compared to May. That’s what industry body the Texas Oil & Gas Association (TXOGA) said in a statement sent to Rigzone, noting that “this marks five out of six months this calendar year that the job count has dropped”. “Operational efficiencies are driving strong production with fewer rigs, which can translate to declining industry job numbers,” TXOGA President Todd Staples said in the statement. _______________________________

The Texas Oil and Gas Association reported a significant increase of 4,500 upstream jobs in March, the highest monthly growth since June 2011. Since September 2020, the industry has added 39,500 upstream jobs, averaging 940 jobs per month, with salaries averaging over $124,000 annually. This job growth supports Texas communities, U.S. energy security, and global stability.

For One Producer, it’s Diamond Life in the Permian Midland and Delaware As they say, when one door closes another door opens. But in the case of Midland, Texas-based Diamondback Energy this week, that old expression with one negative translates to a big positive all the way around. Reese Energy Consulting today is following the latest news from Diamondback, which has closed the door on its February $26 billion merger deal with Midland neighbor Endeavor Resources. Among the biggest acquisitions we’ve seen as part of the consolidation frenzy now a year long, the Diamondback-Endeavor merger has to rank as one of the most memorable. As two of the Permian’s largest operators, each was considered prime buy targets early on for producers on the hunt for more acreage and drilling inventory. This to which both E&Ps rebuffed any rumor, any notion, any idea they were up for sale. Then came Diamondback’s Endeavor announcement last February, no doubt leaving a few broken hearts. With fed scrutiny officially in the rearview, the combination gives Diamondback a total 838,000 net acres across the Midland and Delaware and 816 MBOED. Now onto the open door, where Diamondback’s subsidiary Viper Energy Inc. continues to build its Permian mineral and royalty interests in both plays with three new acquisitions from Fort Worth and Midland, Texas-based Tumbleweed Royalty IV in a cash and stock deal valued at $1.1 billion. Assets include 3,237 acres in the Midland and 490 acres in the Delaware core, which currently produce 2.5 MBPD (4 MBOED). According to news sources, Viper expects Diamondback to develop 120-140 new well locations by the end of 2026. What do you think?
