Meta Advertisers: If your conversion tracking & ad structure are wrecked, creative can’t save you.   Just talked to a $25M brand running a strong creative motion.   But it looked like a 5th grader set up conversion tracking and ad accounts.   They’re putting out great statics & videos every week.   Starting with great creative frameworks & high-converting ad templates.   Even running a proper whitelisting play.   But it wasn’t enough to scale ads aggressively. B/c they had:   😡 Limited server-side tracking   😡 Only CAPI v. better options - Blotout, Elevar   😡 No micro-conversions - only orders   😡 Broken attribution - inaccurate GA4, no Northbeam   😡 Too many campaigns - crushing Meta’s ML’s potential   😡 Bad budget allocation - to Tests vs. Winners   😡 Too much ABO, too little CBO   😡 Too much retargeting - faking growth w/o incremental profit   --   Bums me out when good brands get in their own way (often bc of bad agencies). Yes, creative is a massive lever. But you’ll never be A+ if sleeping on the above.

The best ad is a helpful ad. Over the past 2 weeks at I/O and Google Marketing Live, we showed how ads can be more immersive, interactive, and ultimately, more helpful. Generative AI is unlocking new experiences for consumers and advertisers alike and it’s exciting to be part of this journey. Congratulations to the entire team on the 30+ products launched at GML! A few of my favorites: 📸 Ever wanted to search for something, but didn’t know how to describe it? People can now search what they see — by using their camera or circling an image on their phone screen — and now ads for visual matches will appear at the top of the results page. And at I/O, the Search team demoed how people will soon be able to search with a video. ♾️ An AI Overview within Google Search gives people a quick overview of the topic, with a range of perspectives, categories, and links to dive deeper on the web — and soon it will include ads to relevant products or services based on both the search results and query. It’s particularly helpful at answering complex questions that are like 10 queries rolled into one. ✔️ Businesses can get to know their customers and provide unique recommendations tailored to their exact needs, all through an ad. This kind of interactive personalization gives the customer exactly what they want, resulting in more sales for a business. HOT TAKE 🌶 Today, B2B buyers are more likely to start their buying journey in peer groups and communities than on Google. It's easier and faster to get information on vendors that they can TRUST, because their peers have done the vetting for them. I see this all the time in Pavilion. Community members ask for recommendations on software providers, agencies, and freelancers/fractionals, and then develop a shortlist, all while bypassing traditional organic search. By the time they get to a search engine, they've made a list of vendors and they're doing a **branded** search, not an organic search. Just as buyers are relying on their networks to lead their journey, so are the best sellers. Today, top performing sellers are tapping their networks to grow pipeline, improve conversion rates, and shorten the sales cycle by securing warm introductions at scale. And there's a whole new generation of software springing up to support them in this motion. TL;DR - Go to network isn't the future -- it's NOW.
