Hope everyone is doing okay. We know IRA with climate tech funding is going to get impacted under the new administration. Can you help me find folks in Climate Tech or people with climate tech research backgrounds or friends? If you are one or know of scientists working on climate tech research, please share this with them. My company is looking to donate our donation to fund a climate tech research project. This will be the 7th year we have done this. We are not in climate tech industry. We're a private software company donating from our own profits. We don't have industry contacts or any commercial interest in this. we’re looking for: * early enough that $50k can make a difference. Pre NSF Grant stage. Kind of like pre-seed in tech * researching new technology that relates to carbon capture or carbon reduction (not social science or political science or advocacy or planting tree) * ideally something that creates something commercially viable so that if it works out the market will take it from there * research projects at US universities have been what we've historically donated * application deadline is in a couple weeks 11/20. I’m pleased to share Carbon Accountable's new “SB 253: A Regulations Roadmap”.  I wrote this brief with Michael Schmitz to show that the timely development of a robust set of implementing regulations for the California Climate Corporate Accountability Act #SB53 (Sen Scott Wiener) is eminently doable. The document presents exemplar regulations that clearly demonstrate the feasibility of adhering to the law’s requirement for first reporting by companies in 2026 and challenges the rationale for the proposed two year delay by the Governor's Office Office for this critical climate law. There’s been tremendous support and excitement worldwide for California as it joins the growing network of jurisdictions enacting mandatory corporate GHG emissions disclosure requirements including the EU with its new Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (#CSRD) and countries across the globe that are adopting the #ISSB standards. Grassroots efforts are the best Grassroots efforts to drive homes off fossil fuels and electrify, even better! The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EEBC) effort by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) stands to help hundreds of communities to build knowledge and capacity at the city-level to drive adoption. This is a big deal and will push many cities waiting on the sidelines wait for funding to wade into these waters. My hot take today is about a little noticed announcement the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) released quietly today. It has reopened an opportunity to fund carbon dioxide transportation networks. This is a positive and a much-needed development because Cipher reporting earlier this year revealed that many of the carbon storage projects are not just dependent on securing permits but also on delivering the captured CO2. Aware of the paucity of transport networks, DOE itself noted, the U.S. will need to capture and permanently store approximately 400–1,800 million metric tons of CO2 annually by 2050 to meet its commitments. https://lnkd.in/ef7JPEgr In other top reads by my colleagues, Cat Clifford highlighted a Bloomberg article that spotlights how Holtec International, a company involved in making nuclear waste storage casks, is now looking to revitalize a nuclear plant headed for decommissioning. 🇺🇸An important update on California climate disclosure rules - Governor Newsom has signed the Climate Corporate Data Accountability Act (this rule has had many names and forms in its lifetime - SB19, SB253 and SB261 - but now we can finally all default to the CCDAA!) 📋The reporting deadlines for companies have not changed from those first proposed - reporting starts in 2026 on FY 2025 data. The CCDAA mandates disclosure of scope 1, 2, and 3 greenhouse gas emissions and climate-related financial risks, all based on the TCFD framework (more detail in Watershed’s guide). 🌎But step back from the detail for a second - This is a huge moment for the fight against climate change in the US. The rule applies to thousands of large companies across the country that are doing business in California, not just those based there, and the transparency and comparability of all this new climate data will help drive down emissions across the worlds largest economy. The SBTi just published an evidence review that pretty comprehensively trashes carbon credits: "[V]arious types of carbon credits are ineffective in delivering their intended mitigation outcomes." "There could be clear risks to corporate use of carbon credits for the purposes of offsetting. This includes potential unintended effects of hindering the net-zero transformation and/or reducing climate finance." Totally agree with Brynne Kennedy. When companies are investing billions to overhaul manufacturing processes, supply chains, and operations to improve margins - the technology creation opportunity is massive and investors rush in. But somehow when companies invest billions to reduce emissions (while also improving margins!) - many investors no longer see the same opportunity. Decarbonization tech isn't just the headline industries of carbon offsets and nuclear fusion. It impacts most of the world's GDP and we're here fore the generational opportunity it represents. 🚀
