If you have uneven surfaced products, slightly miss shaped cartons or multi-layer boxes or products then this is the printer for you if you need to print details onto the product. Barcodes, 2D datamatrix or QR codes are handled with ease. Instead of placing the printhead 2 or 3mm from the product you can back it away to half an inch or slightly further (12mm to 14mm) and still achieve crisp and clear print. We have a customer printing onto cylindrical gas bottles and the curved surface presents no problem to the CoPilot Max LT. It replaced dated, low resolution Drop On Demand printing technology. We had a very interesting week with this series, as we had an industry writer reach out and ask if he could put a series of blog posts together and share them with the printing industry. I hope that folks are enjoying these helpful tips. Have a Disciplined Organization---The Other Side of Corporate Culture As I said last week, I held myself accountable to work on the corporate culture. The other side of the corporate culture coin, is to create and maintain a disciplined organization. You have heard about businesses that are said to have the inmates running the asylum. That quote certainly brings to mind a chaotic organization.  Here are the action items I think help create a disciplined work environment. First, have clear and attainable goals. Then to share those goals with everyone. I see you have the  goals for the company on your office wall. Very smart. Better than me. Second, work areas and offices need to be clean and organized. The Firehouse team and done a fine job. Well, done! The place looks great. Third, everyone should have goals for their departments, with metrics, that allow them to understand the value they are adding to the process. I fell short on this over the years, but now with the full implementation of ‘LIFT E.R.P’, from Durst, you have the ultimate in workflow organization and production data. Where we used written ‘standard operating procedures’ in the past, now, the standardized and full use of ‘LIFT’, streamlines the process and clearly defines roles. The metrics are there, too. The Firehouse team has done well here.

Author Andrew Cobble founded Merrick Books in 2022. His goal was to help independent science-fiction and fantasy writers create deluxe, limited editions of their books without breaking the bank. Cobble had learned the ropes when publishing his own book and had gained the expertise to guide fellow authors. Merrick Books was created to help authors crowdsource the funding to publish their own customized books. “RRD has the scope and scale to achieve anything we’ve ever seen in a book — and some things we haven’t ever seen,” Cobble said. “RRD is able to produce unique editions with features other vendors aren’t capable of, and the books are coming out better than we expected.
