Students are losing focus to technology during lessons. How can you re-engage them effectively?
Everything I am seeing in this feed falls in the category of doing things TO students vs. engaging WITH students to solve the problem. I agree with all of that advice, to be clear. AND there is an opportunity, particularly with older students (grades 5-12), to engage with them on the problem and activate their own locus of control. Center the dilemma in a real conversation that raises awareness of the dynamic and the real consequences to spark intrinsic motivation. Empower them to work on self-management. This makes students partners in the solution. At the very least, it will help diffuse the "us vs. them" dynamic when we keep all of the control and do all of the work.

You're overseeing a school community. How can you ensure all staff feel valued and appreciated?
Creating a judgement-free, affirming space for people to come together to share their full selves in a way that is relevant to the work and the moment is essential. Many leaders shy away from creating this space because they are afraid of "taking the lid off of the pressure cooker." The truth is that when the space is created, people share themselves, and the response is affirmation and resonance, they feel deeply seen. They experience a weight being lifted and an empowering connection with each other. The leader's job is not to fix anything or be an expert, but simply to hold the space. I am finding that this kind of space focused on personal renewal in the educator role can be transformative for both individuals and teams.

Your team is resistant to feedback. How can you transform criticism into growth opportunities?
If your team is resistant to feedback, start by holding up the mirror. What are you doing, or not doing, that is contributing to a culture where growth feedback isn't safe? I have yet to work with an organization where the conditions for learning were not significantly impacted by senior leadership.
