I read an interview recently and it reminded me of the similarity to human travel agents working out various potential trip plans for a client…and how Mobi.AI's tech help with w/ the tedious process of replanning and validating the itinerary when changes are requested by the client. Our revops “team” at Chili Piper does A LOT OF automations. If you’d see our list, you’d think we have a full train of rev ops folks working here at Chili Piper (spoiler alert, we have 1 and a half). Here’s an example of an “unconventional” automation We assign churned accounts to SDRs. Yep, we automate outreach to churned accounts Here’s why and how First, let me tell you, it breaks my heart to see any customer churn. I feel like my heart is asking but always aim to learn from it and make everything better for them if they were to come back. Hence, we want to learn what made them leave, fix the problem, and win them back And the good news is that we win many of them back . Here are the nitty gritty on how we do this : We setup these rules for assigning churned accounts to our SDRs: – Account Status = updated to Churned – Transaction End Date = 91 days – Round Robin across SDRs and update SDR Owner – SLA: after 12 working hours, check if there was activity yesterday AND ROE phase ≠ unfit to work, send Slack notification – SLA: after 12 working hours, check if there was activity yesterday AND ROE phase ≠ unfit to work, reassign – Provide a Slack notification to the AM (80 days post-contract end date) – Provide a Slack notification to the SDR once the Account has been assigned (91 days post-contract end date) – Provide SDRs with information on why the account is churning in SFDC to give them the context to sell into the account effectively. Advocating for Yourself in RevOps One thing I'd love to see more RevOps professionals do is advocate for themselves. ❌ This doesn't mean: Pushing back all the time Saying "no" without rationale and alternatives Boastful behavior Putting others' needs last ✅ It means: Gathering data to support recommendations Asking for what you need and deserve Sharing your value and impact Proposing plans to reach your goals As Operators, we're often: 😐 Heads down 😐 Working hard 😐 Expecting recognition 😐 Assuming our contributions are obvious ☝🏻 The reality: Especially in this market, we need to advocate for ourselves better. ☝🏻 What have you done this week to move forward toward your personal goals? #Career #RevOps #Leadership #Advocacy #SelfImprovement

When Anthony Enrico first told me that he was quitting his VP of RevOps role to start a Revenue Operations consulting & services company, I will admit I was a little skeptical. After all, high quality GTM Operations work is hard enough to do when working for a single company, much less a portfolio of companies.  But as I learned more about what Anthony and the team at LeanScale were doing, I realized two things:  1) They are solving for a clear (and relatively unaddressed) challenge that all growing startups face: Startups usually start to think about GTM Operations as a dedicated function as they move into their growth stage. The problem is, who do you hire? An “all-in-one” revenue operations professional does not exist. I have yet to find someone (or even a small team) that is excellent at planning, strategy, analytics, process, systems, & enablement across every department (Marketing, Sales, Customer Success, & Partnerships) and selling motion (product-led, sales-led, & ecosystem-led). But LeanScale’s clients are getting access to the specialized knowledge & experience they need (which is normally reserved for large enterprise-level RevOps teams) for less than the price it would cost to hire a single ops team leader. 2) Their approach is unique in that it ensures providing their clients with realistic, unbiased advice & services: On average, I have had mediocre experiences working with consulting firms or service agencies because their work usually feels half baked. Either they are purely providing strategic guidance, in which case they can make outlandish claims about what you should/shouldn’t do with little accountability because they aren’t the ones who will actually do the work; or they are heavy on services and light on strategy, which necessitates a lot of hand-holding to get the quality of work you really want. But LeanScale combines high quality GTM Ops strategic guidance with the full range of GTM Ops services. They get really embedded with their clients and their clients tend to partner with LeanScale long-term. Which means that, crucially, LeanScale is naturally incentivized to only make recommendations that will actually work and are realistic to implement/maintain.  So when Anthony & Joseph offered me an opportunity to join the LeanScale team, it didn’t take me long to say yes. I’ve been on the job at LeanScale for about a month now and I am blown away by what this team is accomplishing and how highly we are valued by our clients. I could not be more excited to join this amazing team! (P.S. RevOps professionals today probably have double the leverage compared to a couple years back. Knowledge deficits are in many ways removed, or at least heavily reduced. Why? 🤔 Simply due to accessibility of information. Having the ability to ask about a problem and get an immediate, step-by-step instruction set on how to unblock yourself is a massive competitive edge. Whatever technical blocker you faced three years ago when building a new process -- that's gone now. 😶 Folks are slowly acclimating to this. It will likely result in a notable value-increase that a RevOps function brings to an org. 📈 #revops #generativeai

There's been a lot of chatter about the future of RevOps… and I think these conversations are going to continue for a while. In fact, a good friend of mine and incredible RevOps leader (who just happens to live in my neighborhood) have been talking about this for a while. It started as a few casual beers at our local brewery every Friday afternoon. Sometimes we would vent, ideate, hypothesize, and lament about our journeys in RevOps. Jacob Shmukler had the great idea to put those thoughts on paper and share with our larger audience. We collectively see the value in the #revops framework, but have also felt our share of pain points while managing and supporting the role. While reviewing the pain points, we wanted to really dive into what is causing them, and more importantly, how to begin fixing them. As a fair warning, this IS NOT a one size fits all set of suggestions, but more of a understanding on how RevOps might begin to evolve in the future.
