What's your strategy for staying current with supplier sourcing?
This might sound like a horrible sales pitch. Sorry, but I think you can get some real value using 3rd parties to help with your research and discovery. For instance, my company has run several thousand RFPs on behalf of other companies. You would be shocked at the number of global suppliers and sales contacts we have in our database. This dramatically reduces labor and extends your reach to find those hidden gems that are a perfect match for you.

How do you prepare and evaluate bids and proposals from potential suppliers?
As Covey said, "start with the end in mind." My company has helped execute thousands of RFPs. The biggest mistake when running an RFP is not understanding how award of business will be made. If you start with a clear understanding of the reports and the data your stakeholders need to make a decision, the likelihood of success goes up tremendously. Starting with an unclear picture stretches the RFP time to completion and increases the likelihood of a subpar decision. When interviewing stakeholders it helps to start with a template RFP including pricing models.
