ICYMI: Meta provides lead-gen tips & YouTube introduces Shorts ads, the US is top destination for students from India, Pakistan & Vietnam, US News ranks public high schools, and TikTok suing the government over ban. Interestingly a survey of 2,000 Americans by Talker Research found 42% people agree with the TikTok ban, 23% against, and 31% have no opinion. Break that down further, 36% Gen-Z and 40% millennials support the new bill. Parent's top 4 concerns about the app, in order, are: 1. Inappropriate content (58%) 2. Obsession with the app (51%) 3. Data-privacy (44%) 4. Cyberbullying (43%) The consensus is this will take a while with the courts, a 9 month window to sell, and 3 month grace period. ICYMI: Gaming adverts for Gen Alpha, Further uncertainty predicted for private colleges, SnapChat + Augmented Reality, Debt relief for The Arts Institute Alumni, Pinterest engagement jumps. I find Augmented Reality really intriguing. You're not going to find me wearing the Vision Pro any time soon and I'll take Apple CEO Tim Cook's assertion that 'half the fortune 100' use the headset with the bag of salt it deserves. However, the 2016 Pokemon GO phenomenon showed how the technology could be embraced. Built for kids, it very quickly had families spending more time together and outside, mine included. Families do more research than ever before talking to admissions teams. Virtual 360 tours are expected, not a stand-out anymore. The Pokemon GO Gen Alpha students are coming to campus in the next 2 years, is it a leap to think they'd appreciate a technology they grew up on? When you're making a big life choice there are a lot of factors involved, but I can't believe that nostalgia, for students and parents, is a bad emotion to throw into the mix... #highered #AR #roundup #marketing #admissions #enrollment

The number 1 search engine for students is... also a streaming platform - YouTube. How did they get here? And how can university marketing teams leverage this? Students want video content, but YouTube have also been smart with partnerships. In May they started broadcasting Friday night WNBA games which skyrocketed in popularity this season. While boasting a dominant position in streaming, it's the ad tools that caught my attention. Their connected TV (CTV) campaigns serve non-skippable ads which are optimized with Google AI. And their branded QR codes to help better link CTV and other channels to drive tangible results. A fantastic keynote from Stefano Caselli from the SDA Bocconi School of Management, Milan, highlighted, among many aspects of the climate global MBAs and Business Schools are currently operating within, the need for continuous and lifelong learning. Do you/they/we operate as a 'lone ranger' or part of a larger network of shared knowledge? Or, indeed, is the distinction between the two a basic need to be able to swap and change as the need (and business) requires it? Digital credentials that display the skills of learners are an opportunity [for higher education]. And they believe digital wallets or learning and employment records (LERs) could even help change the narrative around higher education. Lynn Pasquerella, president of the American Association of Colleges and Universities, said the project “signals how higher education can come together to catalyze support for advancing students’ career readiness for a future that will benefit all of us.” The coalition includes AACRAO, EDUCAUSE,  American Association of Colleges and Universities,   UPCEA,  National Association of Colleges and Employers,  Association for Institutional Research (AIR), American Council on Education,  Competency-Based Education Network (C-BEN), and 1EdTech Consortium. Its focus will be: Raising awareness of LERs and innovative credentials among learners, educators, employers, and institutions. Advocating for policy changes that give a boost to LERs. Integrating the tools into courses and curricula, including general education. Developing resources and guidelines for colleges.
