A sharp article by renowed polymathy researcher Dr. Angela Cotellessa Meyers on polymaths in organizations. "One problem with hiring in general, though, is that when managers are trying to fill a position, they typically want to see a story that shows commitment to a single career path when they review applicants’ résumés. Managers frequently look for a consistent “story” of specialization within a discipline. Hiring managers typically want to select an employee who has spent their career in a single career field and have a solid commitment and focus on mastering that area of expertise. Résumés with seemingly disconnected positions often tell a story that quickly turns off hiring managers, so those applicants rarely have an opportunity to interview for the position. While hiring single-discipline experts may be appropriate and strategic for some positions, such as more routine work in accounting or human resources, consistently hiring with that focus could backfire if employees are hired for jobs that are not routine or stable, such as information technology or product development. While deep experts can innovate, they can also hold a limiting bias toward their approaches to problem solving, influenced by the lens of their chosen discipline. Deep experts may have on “blinders,” based on the single lens through which they have chosen to see the world." #hr #polymath #hiringstrategy #humanpotential

Leveraging the Mentorship Factor for Effective Book Writing Dr. Michael Koku, November 2024 Author’s Forum. The Mentorship Ripple Effect: A Legacy of Growth Mentorship is more than guidance—it's a catalyst for transformation. By gaining wisdom and support from a mentor, you become empowered to inspire others. In book writing, this ripple effect turns your words into a legacy, impacting countless lives. The MENTORSHIP Advantage Using the sticky acronym MENTORSHIP, mentorship becomes a powerful tool for crafting your book: *M = Motivation: Mentors ignite the spark that pushes you beyond writer’s block and self-doubt, fueling your passion and purpose. *E = Expanded Perspectives: Mentors help you see through diverse lenses, enriching your narrative with depth and empathy. *N = Networking Opportunities: Mentors connect you with agents, editors, and publishers, opening doors you can’t alone. T = Transfer [Wisdom Transfer]: Mentors share proven strategies and insights, equipping you with tools to excel. *O = Observation: By observing mentors, you learn how to emulate their storytelling and publishing success. *R = Relationship: Trust and mutual respect create a safe space for growth and creative exploration. *S = Support: Mentors guide you through challenges, offering structure, clarity, and resilience. *H = Honest Feedback: Constructive critique polishes your work, elevating it to excellence. *I = Inspiration: Mentors fuel bold dreams and help you find your unique voice. *P = Personal Growth: Mentorship accelerates both your writing skills and professional confidence. Mentors: Architects of Success Mentors are your book’s architects, helping lay its foundation and shaping it into a masterpiece. As Shawn Hitchcock says, “A mentor empowers a person to see a possible future and believe it can be achieved.” Charting the Course with a Mentor Think of your mentor as your navigator, guiding you through the uncharted waters of book writing. As Denzel Washington noted, “Show me a successful individual, and I’ll show you someone with real positive influences.” With mentorship, your journey transforms from daunting to inspiring, with every step bringing you closer to success. Mentorship in book writing doesn’t just produce books; it builds legacies. #mentorship #bookwriting #mentorshipfactor #lampglobalcommunity

Strategy toward socially accountable college/university Thanks Alex Nesbitt for sharing this valuable post and make clear difference between strategy and planning, I want to take it from here to elaborate with the context of medical education. At a university or a college level, strategy is about setting the vision, while planning is about executing it efficiently. For instance, if our strategic goal is to transform the college into socially accountable , we need to design a curriculum that not only builds competencies for a socially accountable doctors but also redirects research and community service toward serving the community in the region our medical school serves and beyond 🌍. 🥅🎯Planning then focuses on the nuts and bolts—creating courses, training faculty 👩🏫, and building community partnerships 🤝, reshape the services provided at PHC or tertiary level w to make that vision a reality. Aligning strategy with planning ensures we’re not just setting goals, but actively working towards them 🚀. Faculty development plays a key role in this process, empowering educators to drive impactful change in our students' education. #MedEd #SocialAccountability #FacultyDevelopment #LeadershipInEducation #StrategyAndPlanning

This morning, I sat down to write a quick blog post—but it evolved into something much more! I found myself gathering books and insights from thinkers who may not see themselves as evaluators but have profoundly shaped my practice. Many of them express what I do far more artfully than I ever could. The result? A list of eleven defining qualities that accidental evaluators (myself included) bring to this work. #AccidentalEvaluator #PurposeDrivenWork #ImpactDriven #ReflectivePractice #ThoughtLeadership

WHAT IS VISION? As we note in my book “Everything Connects,” the more that we can attend to the different facets of value, of the ways that our individual lives and organizations can enrich the lives of others, the more deliberately we create it. From value creation, profits will emerge, and not just short-term profits—value that is long term, replicable and sustainable, not to mention more meaningful. → MORE IN THE LINK IN THE COMMENT SECTION. 👇 → PROCEEDS FROM BOOK SALES ARE PLEDGED TO MULTIPLE MYELOMA CANCER RESEARCH — #organization #business #transformation #AI

Andy Forest and I spoke to participants in our Amplifying Impact program last week, and they identified a few potential barriers to think through as they explore how AI might support their organizational goals. 1. Workload - Finding the time to slow down and investigate how AI might serve their organization! 2. Trust - If and where hard-earned trust with their users and partners and clients might be eroded by using AI. 3. Data Security - What do we need to know that we don't know. So many organizations are deeply curious about how AI might serve their organizations and the implications of using it. Our program is designed to support you in thinking deeply and systemically about how AI might fit into your organization, responsibly, ethically and effectively. Andy Forest is a pioneer in building and thinking about Human-Centric generative AI. I am a Systems Thinker and Coach with a deep interest in collaboration and co-creating relational systems that have a positive impact. Together we provide a comprehensive skillset for exploring AI and your emerging needs. https://lnkd.in/g3HiGauP
