A few of my key takeaways: 🌎 The importance of the IRA in supporting climate investment in the US, and the potential political risks today, even as 60%+ of the planned capex is in red and purple states 🌱 In today's fundraising environment, rounds are taking longer to close and investor risk tolerances may be lower, underscoring the importance of start-ups having a strong economic story and path to de-risking ⚡ Even for more mature technologies, traditional lenders may be cautious on underwriting the operational risks associated with unproven business models, highlighting the need for creative capital solutions 🤩 Students are thoughtfully engaging on this topic and looking to build the skills needed to create and finance climate solutions

In our latest research piece, Hamza Abdelrahman, Adam Shapiro, and I explore differences on how pandemic-era liquid wealth evolved across the income distribution. The increase in pandemic-era liquid wealth was most pronounced for higher-income households. Depletion of pandemic-era liquid wealth was accompanied by a notable increase in credit card delinquency rates, particularly for middle- and lower-income households. Hi, I am Violetta Soboleva, the founder of Liberty Forward. Three years ago, I became a finalist in the Fulbright exchange program, which felt like a dream come true. With a fully funded opportunity to study instructional design at Syracuse University, I envisioned returning to Russia and creating innovative resources to teach English in ways that would inspire students and bridge cultures. But the world has changed since then, and so has my life. When Russia launched the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the reality shifted. I stood against the war, hoping that small voices could still be heard amid the chaos. But the Kremlin’s response was swift and severe: dissidents became criminals, international NGOs were shut down, and Fulbright scholars were labelled “security threats.” The path home that once felt certain is now one of incredible risk—like many other Russian exchange scholars, I now face the possibility of imprisonment if I return solely for the “crime” of participating in an exchange program in the U.S. In navigating these uncertainties, I found out that I wasn’t alone. Other exchange participants and activists joined me, and together, we began to connect with a growing network of Russian dissidents, scholars, and emerging leaders who faced similar threats. We realized that so many of us needed protection and resources—and, even more than that, a community. We saw the potential that each one of us held to help rebuild and reshape Russia’s future if given a chance to continue our work safely. This is how Liberty Forward was born. Together with like-minded Russian activists, I founded Liberty Forward to be a safe haven for at-risk Russian leaders and a source of advocacy on their behalf. Our mission is to ensure they have the protection, resources, and connections they need to not only survive but to grow, lead, and build a democratic future for Russia. NEW Research: Families who access free, full-day, universal early care earn more—for years to come. Yale's Tobin Center supported a comprehensive study linking 20 years of randomized school district lottery data with state data on earnings, K-12 outcomes, and more. The study, by economists John Eric Humphries, Christopher Neilson, Xiaoyang Ye, and Seth Zimmerman, identifies key elements that make early care effective as labor market policy. In my continuous efforts to expand Washington Square News’ business and technology coverage, I’m thrilled to have reported on Flite — an event planning startup run by some very passionate NYU students and alumni (Suvir Wadhwa, Rahul Surana, Kanay Jay Shah and Jasmeet Sahota). It’s incredible to see student startups like Flite flourish, especially with the backing of angel investors like Jason Calacanis and seasoned entrepreneurs as mentors like Andrew Boryk. “In February 2024, Flite began participating in the San Francisco-based LAUNCH Accelerator and secured $100,000 of seed funding from founder Jason Calacanis, a top internet entrepreneur and angel investor. Through LAUNCH, Calacanis has backed over 300 technology companies like Uber, Robinhood and Calm. His support kicked off tremendous exposure for Flite’s endeavors. “He has been very, very helpful. He’s a smart guy who always has the answer to everything, no matter what you bring in,” Surana said. “Having somebody like that in your corner is amazing. Ever since then, we’ve secured checks from other investors and even got $10,000 last week.” Flite also been able to grow with the help of advisors like Andrew Boryk, a Forbes “30 Under 30” entrepreneur who has raised over $70 million across several portfolio companies. Guidance from mentors like Boryk has been instrumental to Flite’s expansion, especially when overcoming roadblocks. “We went to a couple of tech mixers in November just trying to meet people in the startup ecosystem,” Surana said. “When we met Andrew Boryk, we were in a bit of a mental block and he was willing to set up a call with us to get us back on track. He has bet on us, not just our startup. I'm excited to share that I have completed the Fundamentals of Alternative Investment (FAI) course offered by CAIA Association. I would also like to thank Wall Street Bound, Inc for providing me with the opportunity to take such a course that has greatly expanded my understanding of alternative investments. This experience, although challenging and time consuming, has sparked a new interest within me for the field of asset and wealth management. I hope to one day be able to explore the topics of asset management and alternative investments further, but for now this marks a milestone for my undergraduate career. Within the Fundamentals of Alternative Investments course there were many things covered, and those subjects are as follows. Foundations Section: Gained foundational knowledge on alternative investments, including unique risk and return considerations, liquidity profiles, and return dispersion. Explored various fund vehicles ranging from fully illiquid to semi-liquid to liquid. Strategy Introductions Section: Organized alternative investments into four risk and return categories. Delved into multiple sub-strategies within each category, covering their characteristics, objectives, risks, performance, and suitability for clients. Learned how to integrate these strategies into diversified portfolios effectively. Portfolio Applications Section: Focused on allocating and implementing alternative investments in diversified portfolios. Studied asset allocation and portfolio construction methods, managing liquidity across portfolios, operational considerations, and client communication. I'm looking forward to leveraging this knowledge to one day drive investment strategies and deliver value in my professional journey.

Starting with the fall 2026 undergraduate admissions cycle, Cornell University will once again require applicants to submit SAT or ACT scores as part of its admissions process. Roger Federer's commencement speech for Dartmouth's Class of 2024 has been making the rounds on social, and perhaps unsurprisingly, we're big fans. Here are a few takeaways that got us feeling inspired and ones that we think are great for our followers to think about! 1. "Effortlessness is a myth" - Even the GOATs have to hustle, if anything they're GOATs because they do. 2. Fed won 80% of his matches, but only 54% of the points he played. - There's a narrow margin between greatness and mediocrity, build upon every win because not every swing you take is going to hit. 3. “When you’re playing a point, it has to be the most important thing in the world. But when it’s behind you—it’s behind you. This frees you to fully commit to the next point with intensity, clarity, & focus. Negative energy is wasted energy.” 4. "I play chess online with strangers" - GOATs are nerds just like us. Also, mental breaks are important. 5. Dartmouth has a sweet dais! A tree stump as a podium?
