The sad truth is that a vast majority of improvement efforts fail to meet expectations! 😒 I have been working in the continuous improvement field for almost 20 years now, but it wasn't until I was doing research for my doctoral dissertation that I realized exactly how hard it is to create a culture of continuous improvement within organizations. The research was clear- most efforts will fail to meet expectations. The question I wanted to answer, in part through my research, was WHY? ❓ It turns out that one of the main reasons for failure, is lack of leadership engagement (notice I said "engagement" and NOT support). Having leaders "support" continuous improvement efforts is obvious, however you need leaders out front "leaning forward" throughout the organization and engaging employees and other leaders, reminding them of why it is so important that continuous improvement become a part of the organization's culture! 💪 Coaching leaders is a crucial aspect of cultivating a continuous improvement culture. As CI practitioners, we must guide leaders on their pivotal role in driving continuous improvement. Leaders set the tone, model behaviors, and reinforce on a daily basis, principles that sustain continuous improvement thinking. Without their commitment and clear understanding of expectations, CI efforts will falter. As a CI practitioner, your role isn’t just about tools and processes; it’s about shaping leaders (through coaching) who inspire and empower their teams to embrace continuous improvement at every level. A very usual question while on a #lean excercise. On what criteria(s) would you decide any activity as value added and non value added? It is easy to say that a VA activity is something a customer is willing to pay for and a NVA activity is one hebis not willing. How do functions classify this in day to day working? Let's start an interesting discussion.....

Lean and TPM are sometimes portrayed as being at odds as different Continuous Improvement philosophies, but in fact they can work together beautifully - it's common practice to enrich your TPM "pillar temple" with a Lean or Supply Chain pillar. Integration Lean into TPM mindset and management does require some careful thought though. To fully benefit from the two systems working together, it's important to treat the Lean thinking as any other pillar: they analyse losses and opportunity in their domain (the Value Stream and Mura, Muri, Muda), support improvement efforts and sustain systems to hold the gains in their domain (mainly inventory management, materials flows and supply chain systems). #continuousimprovement #lean #tpm https://lnkd.in/eWuCxYF2

Standards AND Change, that is Continuous Improvement Lean can at times seem a contradiction of itself. This sort of cognitive dissonance implies that to improve I must standardize my processes and also change my processes. 🤯 Process Improvement must challenge all of our held beliefs. Regardless of function or title, when we begin to think and believe with this sort of mental agility, our actions will follow. That is what the responsibility spans all layers equally.
