How can you distinguish between internal and external corporate communication?
"The exchange of information and ideas within an organization" is *not* how people want to hear from leadership ... #shivers. Good internal communications should be natural and authentic while breakout communications intentionally orients to create loyalty and ambassadors. Shortest route to ruining any good work along the way is assuming internal communications is the catch-all for all functions. Corporate Communications leaders *must* have strong guardrails of what is and is not the responsibility of the team. Nothing like a poorly written all-employee email, sent from CorpComms, that bumbles some new policy rollout. Look no farther than RTW mandates and the morale collapse they've caused.

What do you do if you don't have the budget for a graphic designer but need to create a brand logo?
Being a strong leader includes having the confidence and executive presence to say no to company executives, and back it up with a strong rationale. Counsel leadership to take a breath and determine what problem are we trying to solve for that would be unfunded? If there is no allocated budget the company has actively deprioritized the project and we should follow suit. If you need expertise, you hire an expert. If you cannot hire an expert then the only outcome will be real failure.

What do you do if your thought leadership efforts require a team effort?
Building a thought leadership team is best approached like establishing an AdBoard with distinct roles, voices and perspectives to contribute to the process. Stealing from how AdBoardss are established, create a working charter (nothing overly cumbersome) that serves as the guide post for when, where and who to contribute to ongoing conversations. Instill a strong cadence with predictable planning/ideation meetings which serve to forecast peak periods where the team's input and involvement are needed. And, lastly, leverage the social/digital reach of the full thought leadership team you've assembled to maximize engagement with all content created. This includes creating posting cascades with comments across all social media channels.
