I can't believe it has already been 2 years since Textio published the largest-ever study showing pervasive bias by gender, race, and age. In it we were able to show the link between feedback quality and employee attrition. We have another report coming out soon and I think it is going to be even 'better.' (I put quotes because it is really better to find out that people still don't get it?) This year's research focuses on 2 main things: * High-performers: What kind of feedback do they receive, and how well does it work to motivate and retain them? * Feedback internalization and stereotype threat: We've looked before at what kind of feedback different demographic groups *receive.* This year we're looking at what kinds of feedback different demographic groups *internalize* - and how that changes their performance over time. Between employers and employees there's some uncertainty about what comes next in the rest of 2024. Will companies expand in time to meet employee needs for security or growth? Will employees move to other opportunities before expansion begins? 2024 still has a ways to go. And our careers will still demand progress. So now, we might just have a waiting game. How do you feel about your job and career as of late?

Earlier this week, I brought my fully remote, distributed team together in Napa for a two-day offsite, where I intentionally stepped away from the typical planning and strategy sessions. Instead, I created space for us to simply connect.🙌 The days were mostly unstructured—a welcome break from the daily grind. We shared great meals, stories, and laughter—lots of it.🤣 Here’s what I walked away with: ✅ Immense gratitude for each person I work with. ✅ Confidence that those two days were time well spent. I truly believe that the supportive, psychologically safe environment we’ve built as a team is a direct result of the time we’ve dedicated to getting to know each other, understanding one another better, and prioritizing playfulness and fun. Too often, leaders underestimate the value of this type of connection, dismissing it as "fluff" or making minimal efforts, treating it as an afterthought. But for me, it’s the foundation of a thriving, cohesive team.❤️ Each smiling face in this photo is a big part of why my career is such a fulfilling and positive force in my life.🙏 #leadership #innovation #mentalhealth #peoplefirst #remote #remotework #wfh #humanresources

Culture Amp has published our most recent Workplace DEI report. By pairing DEI benchmark data from 390 companies and over 175,000 employees with State of the DEI Landscape survey results from 165 companies, our findings shed light on the actions and strategies that move the needle on DEI. Economic strain and sociopolitical backlash seem to have caused organizations to take a troubling step back from DEI initiatives, but that's not a good business decision. Our data shows that a company valuing DEI unquestionably improves employee experience and business performance: 1️⃣ Employees who strongly believe their company values diversity are 84% engaged while those who strongly disagree are 20% engaged. 2️⃣ Employees who strongly believe their organization doesn’t value diversity are 3.3x more likely to leave in a 12-month period. 3️⃣ Companies that value diversity have a 6.8% higher stock price. 😍 Tool Appreciation Post Incoming 😍 I do a LOT of writing for Buildout - everything from employee comms to development programs to, more recently, customer training materials. I've always enjoyed writing, and I'm glad I get to spend a good chunk of my work life focused on stuff like word choice! 🤓 I've been using Grammarly since 2022 and continue to be wowed by its power and versatility as a writing tool. I get excited when my Grammarly recap email hits my inbox every week. Not just because it tells me where I'm excelling (unique word count) but also where I have room to improve (stop dropping "the" from your sentences because you're writing too fast). I think the best tech tools strike a balance between excitement and coaching. "Yay! You've written 5 million words since 2022!" but also, "Wow, your fondness for ellipses is... noticeable." 👀 No shaming. No "should-ing." Just stats, moments of delight, tools to make me better, and really good weekly emails. Thanks for making a tool that I'm excited to use every day, Grammarly! (And, ahem, thanks for coaching me through my comma obsession. We'll get there.) ✍

What metrics matter most in employee advocacy? Forget the guesswork,,, The Employee Advocacy Benchmark Report is now live! A pretty significant takeaway for me is the shift in attribution and definitions of success. 61% of organizations said they DON’T track the cost-per-click (CPC) from employee advocacy This was the go-to measure for success once upon a time, and we couldn’t have a sales meeting without discussing the CPC potential of employee advocacy! Today, however, the conversation around ROI from this strategy has changed, as organizations are paying closer attention to the brand impact: 👉 24% of organizations cite brand awareness as their main objective. 👉 52% see increased brand visibility as the biggest benefit of employee advocacy.
