As we approach key milestones, both in business and society, the relevance of the Hispanic community in retail and beyond cannot be overstated. Hispanic consumers represent a significant and growing share of the market, with our diverse tastes and cultures shaping the retail landscape. Yet, no single voice can fully represent our broad and diverse community. As Jose Antonio Tijerino, President and CEO of the Hispanic Heritage Foundation, said: "No one speaks for our community. We're too diverse. We're too broad. So we need everyone telling their stories." This is true not only for the products and assortments on retail shelves, where a stronger Hispanic presence is long overdue, but also for our role in shaping national conversations, especially as we look toward upcoming elections. The response to Pura Vida Miami's opening in Manhattan validates the rise of the ‘all day café’ as one of the fastest growing trends in consumer retail over the past three years. The strong majority of new growth stage F&B brands that sit within this category show a shift away from the assembly-style quick service restaurant model, now with a large focus on the ‘made-to-order’ service model. This is absolutely where we at Brand Urban are seeing the most consumer demand, as well as the most landlord excitement (from a pure amenity-perspective in both residential and commercial assets). But what constitutes an ‘all day café’? We are seeing concepts of all shapes and sizes: some concepts with limited-service models and others with full-service programs. Some concepts have retail, gifting and gourmet market components, others have great daytime coffee and pastry programs, and some have heavy lunch, happy hour, through dinner business. The key is prioritizing affordability and approachability - while increasing the average check through a touch of hospitality and ambiance. As a New Yorker, some of local OG’s in this category are Westville Restaurant Group, The Grey Dog and Jack’s Wife Freda – all of whom are continuing to show thoughtful growth with a combination of full-service and limited-service offerings. I continue to be amazed by the influx of best-in-class, growth stage brands from Maman NYC, Ruby's Cafe, Tatte Bakery & Cafe and Daily Provisions (to name a few). There is a long-standing tactics for analysts who touch (if not actually do) retail of stating "clearly X has a lot of money and I think they should spend it to save/buy another retailer!" It used to be Carrefour, Groupe Casino, Tesco, Walmart, and of course Amazon. It gently avoids the hard-earned knowledge of each that it usually goes badly. After owning over 500 Whole Foods Markets since 2017, I suspect that Amazon is finally clear in thinking out a very slow ROI that would not match their current financial thinking. According to a new report, Latinas added $1.3 trillion to the U.S. economy in 2021—outpacing Florida’s GDP and ranking just behind California, Texas, and New York. Key points: • GDP growth: Up from $661 billion in 2010, marking a 51.1% real GDP growth. • Resilience: Despite pandemic challenges, Latina GDP grew 7.7% between 2019-2021. • Labor force impact: Latina participation rates rose 7.5 percentage points from 2000 to 2021, outpacing non-Hispanic women.
