✖ Currently the FAA issues 'one-off' waivers for Beyond Visual Line of Sight ☑ A clear, predictable regulatory pathway integrating UAV/Drone ops into National Airspace System is critical for safety, competitive edge, scalability and reliability. ✅ A rule-based approach unlocks full benefits of BVLOS operations: ➡ to our national economy, ➡ local communities, and, ➡ enable industry to operate more broadly in essential areas 📶 Beyond Visual Line of Sight allows UAV/drone ops to expand effectively in sectors like public safety, medical transport, logistics, and agriculture. ⏭ The FAA Reauthorization Act, May 16, 2024, directed the FAA to develop a consistent regulatory framework for BVLOS UAV/drone operations and: ☑ Issue a notice of proposed rulemaking in 4 months ☑ Finalize in 20 months. ❎ Deadline HAS PASSED, and ❎ FAA indicated a potential delay until January 2025 ✴ Despite FAA’s efforts to increase the number of waivers, it creates a burden for both the agency and UAV/drone companies. ☑ Yesterday's committee letter said FAA’s waiver-based approach has become cumbersome and is not sustainable, and ☑ Has created complexity, delays, fosters uncertainty & stifles innovation "Lawmakers have pressed the Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to prioritize timely implementation of the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024, specifically focusing on enabling beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) drone operations. This regulation, referred to as Part 108, is critical for the U.S. drone industry’s growth and competitiveness: enabling profitable operations for a wide variety of applications." #bvlos #faa #uavdroneops https://lnkd.in/eX5pJEcR

The more advanced the ground system with a native CCSDS telemetry and COP-1 compliant spacecraft means of communicating the easier your spacecraft integration & test efforts. Some go with the gold standard, OS/Comet, but find out it takes a greater investment in maintaining the databases, cmd scripts, displays, etc. https://lnkd.in/ezfF8kzr https://lnkd.in/ezfF8kzr https://lnkd.in/eZtzQsMR

At 25 minutes into this video, a loud bang at Dive 8 was detected by acoustic sensors, traced to a strain release. Unfortunately, this warning went unheeded, and the submersible was later lost. A stark reminder of the importance of listening to early signals in high-risk environments. https://lnkd.in/gQW7QpMA #SafetyFirst #RiskManagement #AE #NDT

Great Day 1 at AFA for Mike Mahoney and I. Lots of great business discussions on the need for legacy and emerging tech to integrate human centered design into the development and execution cycles of multi layered domain systems. Considering how the human in, on, or out of the loop will engage the overall system early drives a foundation of flexibility and agility as tech matures. Designing in this manner ensures we will be ready to adapt to future needs! Super excited for Day 2! #Teague.

Dr. Richard O. Stroman, for the Individual Engineer Award: Stroman is recognized for conceiving and leading the development of the energy-focused mission-planning tool for unmanned air vehicles (UAVs), called POTION that extends range and endurance by helping aircraft operators use energy intelligently. “I am honored to receive this award and appreciate the recognition it brings to our team at the Naval Research Laboratory and our partners at the Naval Postgraduate School and Platform Aerospace,” said Stroman. “This software addresses important Navy needs by enabling autonomous systems to operate farther and with greater endurance, which is why we are continuing to refine and expand it.” In September 2023, Arctic flight-tests of a POTION guided UAV demonstrated the range and endurance of the aircraft were significantly extended, enabling them to reach farther into contested areas and stay on station longer. POTION also improved the energy situational awareness of aircraft operators in order to respond to changing conditions quickly. The flights were the culmination of seven years of work at NRL and Naval Post Graduate School. They conclusively demonstrated the benefits of software like POTION for improving the operational capability of long range and endurance UAVs for the Navy and Marine Corps.
