How well does your supply chain develop its pipeline of talent? If your experience is anything like mine, calling it a mixed bag would be generous. Skill-building and talent encouragement have improved significantly within the supply chain profession. Communication and soft skills have been a specific focus in my current organization, resulting in noticeable improvement and appreciation. While early career mentorship is common, there is often less focus on guiding individuals through mid and senior career stages. Developing basic skills is easier due to available tools and training, but managing progression and expertise growth remains a challenge. Recently attended an interesting webinar by Hitachi Solutions America featuring Jeff Winter, Pritraj Singh and few others who explored the intersections of #AI, #SupplyChain Innovations, and Future Trends. The experts provided a glimpse of what’s working and what’s not. Here are some of my key takeaways: ⏳In terms of business outcomes, and in order of priority, senior executives are currently after Predictability > Visibility ~ Flexibility > Speed of Response 🥇In terms of functionality, the biggest focus area across industries has been Supply Chain #Planning, more specifically, Demand Forecasting; followed by Sourcing & Procurement. A real-world example was provided where a global retailer managed to save up to €3.5 million annually in logistics costs by utilizing ML for better demand planning and prioritizing their top-performing SKUs. 📊 AI enables real-time demand sensing, allowing companies to better predict near-term demand fluctuations. This capability is particularly crucial for companies like Church Brothers Farms, which faced challenges due to the perishability of their products. By leveraging AI, they improved order fulfillment and significantly reduced product wastage. 🤖According to Gartner, organizations expect the level of machine autonomy in their processes to double within the next five years. This reflects a significant shift towards Automation <> AI integration 💰Global spending on Industrial Internet of Things (#IIoT) platforms has grown from $1.67 billion in 2018 to $12.44 billion in 2024, achieving a 40% compound annual growth rate (CAGR). Considering all of the above, I'm glad and excited that Stellium's Innovations practice has a razor-sharp focus towards building a next gen #DemandForecasting platform, collaborating with some of the brightest minds in the world of Supply Chain Planning and #MachineLearning. In the last two years, 86.2% of Manufacturers have worked to de-risk their supply chains. A recent study from Deloitte says that Supply Chain efficiency is back on top with costs and margin pressures. Many companies are now prioritizing a resilient yet efficient supply chain • Geopolitical instability and disruptions keep the focus on delivery and lead times. • Longer lead times can threaten manufacturing processes and ultimately business continuity. In the Q1 2024, there has been increased supply chain challenges as seen in the graph - which has led to increased transit times worldwide. - Lead time for Mfg. materials in Apr 2024: 79 days. - 21% reduction from the peak of 100 days in July 2022. - Still higher than 2019 levels of 65 days. This 2024 increase will likely motivate companies to still maintain focus on resilience as they seek efficient operations and use best practices : - Diversify suppliers. - Bring capabilities in-house. - Implement digital technologies. Next phase of supply chains: Maximize resilience while continuing to seek continuous improvement for efficient operations. #supplychain #resilience

In the contemporary supply chain landscape, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) are progressively navigating towards establishing direct sales channels to consumers. This emergent trend prompts a pivotal inquiry that consistently dominates the discourse: Who stands to gain from such supplier encroachment? Is it a given that the OEM reaps the benefits? Or does the initiation of a direct channel spell potential discord for the OEM-retailer rapport? Our recent research paper co-authored with my mentors and esteemed colleagues, Prof. Sachin Jayaswal and Prof. Benny Mantin, and featured in the Production and Operations Management Society (POMS) Journal, rigorously examines these pertinent questions. It scrutinizes the intricacies of manufacturing costs and strategic maneuvers of supplier encroachment. The findings of our research are revelatory, indicating that the act of supplier encroachment is not the clear-cut advantage it is often presumed to be. In a surprising twist, it may culminate in relatively higher manufacturing costs in the future, as compared to scenarios where encroachment is absent, thereby challenging the conventional narrative that views encroachment as an inherent benefit to the supplier. #MindfulMonday Have you ever heard of the Danish concept "hygge" (pronounced "hoo-ga")? Last Friday, I shared with attendees of our monthly virtual coffee chat that I am reading a book titled "The Little Book of Hygge" authored by Meik Wiking, CEO of the The Happiness Research Institute based in Copenhagen. Originally, hygge was a Norwegian word for wellbeing, but it has since evolved into a more specific term. “Hygge loosely translates as a sense of comfort, togetherness, and well-being.” ~Meik Wiking It's a term that embodies slowing down, enjoying little things, and surrounding yourself with positivity and people and things that bring you comfort. So here's an example of how I embrace hygge in my day-to-day: following a brisk walk for exercise, I stop for morning coffee at my favorite local cafe with my husband, always accompanied by a good read. 📚😌 How do you practice Hygge?
