It involves forming JV (Joint Venture) partnerships to share audiences. Imagine a chiropractor and a massage parlor next door to each other. They serve the same clientele—people with sore muscles. By collaborating, they can offer gift certificates to each other's services, creating a win-win situation. In my experience at a solar company, we partnered with window installers, roof installers, and LED lighting retrofit companies. These businesses served the same customers we did. 📉 Small businesses are facing significant hiring challenges, with 28% of owners finding it "extremely" or "significantly" difficult to attract talent. 31% of businesses cite current market-rate salaries as a barrier to hiring and retaining employees. Despite these hurdles, small businesses are trying to remain competitive by increasing wages and offering more benefits. Mariko Paul, assistant general counsel and human resources consultant at Engage PEO, advises companies to embrace pay transparency and highlight employee benefits that resonate with potential hires. “We do see employees jumping to be paid more … But I am also seeing employees taking pay cuts to work in jobs that have better flexibility or work-life balance or other desirable traits that make the job worth taking a pay cut.” Stefanie Camfield, assistant general counsel and HR consultant at Engage PEO, suggests reevaluating job qualifications and ensuring that salaries align with the skills required. “There are concerns that some requirements don’t align with salary expectations for those jobs … That might mean changing those qualifications or hiring employees who are more of a stretch — like employees who need additional training.” In a competitive market, businesses must offer more than just pay to attract top talent. Attractive benefits, flexible work schedules, mental health days, and supportive work environments are increasingly important. Job candidates are also raising their expectations, with many abandoning recruitment processes due to poor communication, unmet salary expectations, and lengthy hiring procedures.
