The recent adoption of a North American standard for a universal EV charging interface is big news for both EV EV drivers and EV manufacturers. Although there are a few "speed bumps" that will delay full deployment for a year or so, it will effectively double the number of EV charging stations available to the public by allowing non-Tesla vehicles to access Tesla's17,000+facilities, as well as enable Tesla vehicles to charge at any SAE J3400-compliant commercial charging station. Electric Vehicles (EV) and Autonomous Technology: There’s a continued push towards electrification, but challenges persist with EV adoption rates and infrastructure. Recent expert commentary points out that the EV market may grow more slowly than anticipated due to high costs and "range anxiety" among consumers. Advances in battery technology, such as solid-state batteries, and autonomous driving technology, especially in Levels 4 and 5 autonomy, are expected to grow but will face patent and security issues as they develop. The focus will be on creating more affordable, energy-efficient EV options and implementing wireless charging to potentially connect vehicles directly to the grid for smoother energy distribution. 2. Automotive Fleet posted a long- overdue article about digital advances that can speed up the titling process for fleets and anyone remarketing, reselling, or re-registering a vehicle. It includes information from the ARA - Automotive Remarketing Alliance's annual conference in August that introduced eSTART, a coalition aiming to modernize title registration across every state. Great perspective on what is really happening in the EV market from Laurence Iliff of Automotive News. One takeaway: Auto sales act like other free markets and prices rise and fall with demand for EVs two. Incentives near $9k or more lower the price to attract buyers. OEMs at some point need to have vehicles that sell without such huge discounts.
