Last week, Edelman released the 2024 Edelman #Trust Barometer Special Report: Business & Racial Justice, exploring the role of institutions (business, government, media and NGOs) in addressing societal systemic injustice. A few findings from this year's report - now in its fifth year - that stood out for me: 1) 6 in 10 view an inclusive and diverse #workplace as a deciding factor for considering and/or staying with an employer; 2) 3 in 4 agree that diverse workplaces yield stronger trust with customers and more #innovation in product/service outputs; 3) 6 in 10 also view #AI as having potential to inflame even more division. Headlines animate the news. Since Oct. 7th, The New York Times, BBC News, and many others news outlets have pushed a Z10n!st narrative, justifying and sanitizing jen0sydal attacks on schools, hospitals, aid distribution centers, and "safe zones" in G@/za. They have failed to cover the mass@cre of more than 150 Pal/esti/nian journalists. Barely a mention! They have whitewashed the horrors of the I0F's forced displacement of 2 million people and obscured the ap@rtheid state's responsibility for manufacturing a famine. This video juxtaposes the brutality and indiscriminate violence of the I0F's jen0sydal assault on G@/za with TNYT's surrealist reporting... correcting just a few of the many consent-manufacturing headlines over the past 10 months. The truth is essential. The truth is life or death. Boycott, divest, and unsubscribe from the imperial tabloid of TNYT and others like it.

Policies they make have a direct and indirect impact on the business operations. Corporate Communications professionals need to be an expert in Public Policy tracking and Public Affairs too apart from Public Relations. Government and Politicians are a key external stakeholders and influencers for businesses. Lobbying by entrepreneurs across the globe since a century is a common phenomenon. Last week, approximately 400 participants from around the world converged in DC to discuss the state of communications, to hear opposing and affirmative views, and to experience what it’s like to be on Capitol Hill two weeks before the election.    Here are three quick reflections on PRovoke Media’s Global Summit:  ❇️ Curate what matters to you the most: With a vibrant lineup of panelists like Mike Allen/Axios, Kathy Baird/Washington Post, Denise Dahlhoff/The Conference Board, Megan Doern/Deloitte, Nicki Haley, Kara Swisher, and others, there was a lot to take in. As usual, PRovoke has done a great job reporting on the Summit (check out their website.) These are the quotes that stuck with me (some paraphrased):  💬 "You don’t create a great product if you don’t have more points of view." 💬 "We have a lot of information but not a lot of facts. The purveyors of the main social networks have backed away from any moderation, and we are seeing the decline of media outlets that were much more stringent about facts.” 💬 "Regardless of what happens on election day, don't be quick to put anything out, don't be quick to respond because you won't know if it's real and you don't know exactly who's behind it. Make sure we're not contributing to any of that division.” 💬 "We need to be relentless. We need to wake up every single day and continue trying.” 💬 "I do think that the old quote, what gets measured gets managed, is still very true." 💬 “Process is such a critical thing to communicate quickly.” ❇️ Cherish the in-person moments: Many of us find industry conferences and events valuable because they give us the chance to reconnect with old colleagues and meet new people. Steve Kerns and I definitely accomplished this. It was also good to catch up with some of the good folks at PRovoke Media. ❇️ AI: don’t be lazy, and don’t get seduced. As expected, #AI was a significant topic of discussion at the Summit.  There is still much to be comprehended and navigated. Some of the AI-related sessions reminded me of what Jeremy Kahn, Fortune magazine’s AI editor said during one of his recent podcasts: “One of the things I’m concerned about is that this technology is so easy to use and so seductive that we’ll overuse it and, as a result, lose some of our important cognitive abilities.” We must be thoughtful and proceed with caution.    Thank you again to the PRovoke Media team for all their hard work. Loved yapping about how founders and investors should think about communicating during election season. Thanks for having me, Riley Kaminer! Think about: 1. Who's your audience? Consider customers, employees, and LPs. 2. What's your mission? How does politics play into that? If you're selling abortion pills by mail, you probably have a clear view on who should be president (and your consumers likely agree). A meditation app might instead focus on taking time away from political news to rest and recharge. If you're an investor, LPs are probably more interested to know how different electoral outcomes will move markets than they are in your own political opinion. 3. Put together contingency plans for each electoral outcome as well as a contested election. ("We're not going to say anything publicly" is a plan, too!)
