I share these thoughts and posts just as much for my own personal growth as I do for others who may benefit from them. These are of my creative thoughts and ideas wrapped around issues and obstacles we all face daily. The Value of Courage: A Reflection on Joshua 1:9 Courage is a profound and multifaceted virtue that resonates deeply within our lives. It is often perceived as a grand act, such as saving a life or standing up against injustice. However, the essence of courage extends far beyond these dramatic moments. In the Bible, specifically in Joshua 1:9, we are reminded that courage is a command from God: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” This verse emphasizes that courage is not merely an option; it is a divine directive that calls us to live boldly and authentically. At its core, courage involves the ability to express what is truly on our hearts, even when the response may not be as we hope. It takes inner strength to speak our truths positively and constructively, knowing that vulnerability can lead to rejection or misunderstanding. Yet, it is in these moments of honesty that we foster deeper connections and understanding. By embracing the command of courage, we create an environment where genuine communication thrives. Moreover, courage also manifests in restraint. There are times when our emotions may urge us to lash out or express hurtful words. It is here that true courage lies in the ability to pause and refrain from actions that would only perpetuate suffering—both ours and others’. Choosing to respond with grace rather than anger is a powerful testament to our inner strength. Additionally, admitting mistakes and accepting responsibility requires immense courage. It is easy to hide behind pride or blame others, but acknowledging our errors allows for growth and healing. This acceptance not only strengthens our character but also inspires those around us to embrace their imperfections. Courage can also be found in the small, everyday gestures that we often overlook. Telling someone they are valued or appreciated can be daunting, especially when we fear rejection. Yet, expressing admiration can uplift another person’s spirit and foster a sense of community. These simple acts of courage can have a profound impact, both on ourselves and those we reach out to. As we reflect on Joshua 1:9, let us each take a moment to consider what courage means in our lives. It is a command that encourages us to be strong and courageous in all aspects—whether it be in our relationships, our responsibilities, or our personal growth. Today, may we embrace the call to courage, understanding that it encompasses both the bold actions we take and the quiet moments of restraint and honesty. It's a new week and middle of the month and we probably set out a number of things to accomplish. No matter the progress, don't give up. You may persist or change strategy but keep eyes on the end goal. What if you are a leader and your institution is setting all its eyes on you to attain the targets for the period? Do not rush to "change your shoes" without a deep diagnosis of the situation. The application of analytical skills by a leader when things are not going well in the preferred direction is what separates leaders from strategic leaders. Day 10/21 Challenge 2023 WAEC Exam Ranking: Abia State ranked 1st, while Yobe State ranked 37th. All South-East states are in the top 10. NECO 2024 Exam Ranking: Abia State ranked 1st, Katsina State ranked 37th, and all South-East states are in the top 10. Ekiti State recorded the highest rate of cheating. Of the 60% of total recorded examination malpractices, 50% occurred in the South-Western part of Nigeria, with Ekiti State accounting for 30% of the total exam malpractices. In some schools in Ekiti, candidates wrote identical answers on their answer sheets from number 1 question to the last question—word for word, using the same English. In one particular school, all the candidates had identical handwriting, with the only differences being their names and exam numbers. Approximately 20 invigilators from the Western region have been suspended for aiding candidates in cheating during the exam. Meanwhile, Ndi Igbo continue to lead in education, science, commerce etc at all levels. However, some people are still clinging to the glories of the civil war era and the 20 years that followed, failing to realise that Ndígbo have surpassed others in Nigeria in various aspects, except in the areas of fraudulent elections and politics. Honor a Veteran for Memorial Day On this Memorial Day, I am honoring my Uncle Romie who was a cook in the army. He was a Forest Ranger and dressed up as Smokey the Bear to do education programs for the local community. He would climb the fire tower and look for forest fires in the national forests. His fire tower was like the one in the photo. Uncle Romie looked for something to laugh about because he reported me to my Mom for hitting boys with my red purse on the playground in elementary school which was across the road from his fire tower. I know he saw this as a random act of kindness for the boys on the playground and for me, too. I did stop the behavior after my Mom explained this would limit my supply of purses. The biggest win you can have for your organization or business is to focus on what value your strategy creates for your customers, employees, and community. Like Uncle Romie, finding the good in things and the value you bring to others is one of the keys to developing your strategy. The value is in the eyes of the beholder. What can you start doing to communicate your value to the person you are presenting to or serving? What can you stop doing that does not add value to the person you are presenting to or serving? What new strategy can you create to honor a veteran in your community? Good leadership is anchored on God's purpose and direction. An inability of a leader to allign spiritual (genuine) knowledge in leadership continue to sway leaders from recognizing people's needs and challenges. It is to be noted that, leadership comes with insurmountable challenges. However, overcoming as a leader requires certain important attributes. On the 18th April 2024, I was privileged to attend life changing session facilitated by Mary Jane Bruce under the Young Professional Mentorship Program (YPMP) , hosted by @Sharon Akanyo and moderated by Sharon Atyang . Mary Jane Bruce is a professional teacher, a customer and consumer expert. She has a huge experience in Mentorship. As a leader, @Mary Jane Bruce expounded that, leadership comes with enormous challenges. However, there is need to rise and thrive above. She outlined important requisites for an overcoming leader. A good must be: ●be prepared in all lines ●plan ahead ●stop making excuses ●be consistent ●communicate in times of challenges and good times ●encourage feedback at all levels ●be accountable ●good listener ●approachable when there's need , and ●maintains control over situations from escalating and has high emotional intelligence. With the above, leadership will be based on people's centeredness which is an overtly lacking among most contemporary leaders. I extend my sincere gratitude to the @YPMP team for creating an indelible learning memories through insightful sessions like this. I encourage those with passion in leadership, career development and community service to be part of the Young Professional Mentorship Program (YPMP).
