Aspiring SOC analysts need to have a Medium, and they need to blog 2x a week. Your first posts should be about your backstory - Why are you interested in cybersecurity? What brought you here? This needs to be developed because, in every interview, the interviewer will ask, "Tell me a little about yourself?" The more fluid this spill is, and the more authentic it is, the better the conversation will be. It needs to be recited, and you need to have a good story. It's almost always the first question they'll ask you, setting the tone for your interview. You'll be asked this question for the rest of your career. The following blog posts should be for walkthroughs and tutorials of your home lab and projects you've been working on. If you learn something, teach it. You can also write reviews about any training you've taken to help your peers make decisions. Try not to be too critical, and show that you can offer positive, constructive criticism while being honest in helping your peers. Your Medium and LinkedIn should be links on your resume, and your Medium posts should be posted on all your social media outlets to guide people to your whole story and everything you've been up to. If curious, they will review your resume, click on the LinkedIn link first, and then click on your Medium link from your LinkedIn profile. This concept is called the "resume funnel" - the goal is for your hiring manager to invest more time in you as a candidate. Medium has a substantial built-in tech audience and provides fantastic SEO for everything you create, making your name Googlable.
