As the #Cannabisindustry reshapes, independent news sources are becoming harder to find amidst so much #phony PR-driven content. Highly Capitalized Network-HCN is proud to stand as one such trusted outlet, and interestingly, investment firm Viridian Capital Advisors is another. Known for their data-driven, unbiased insights for #investors, Viridian Capital Advisors provides clear perspectives on pressing issues—like the anticipated “debt tsunami” in 2026. While many articles forecast this crisis, Viridian views the outlook as overly #cautious. The current Cannabis debt market remains active, with refinancings occurring without costly add-ons like equity #kickers. Indeed, when (not if) Section 280e is #repealed, many companies should comfortably manage & refinance their upcoming #debt. Take a look at their attached #chart: - Orange line: 2026 EBITDAR estimates. - Black line: EBITDAR + June 2024 cash balances. - Various bars represent tax, lease payments, interest, Capex, & debt maturity. Although 2026 presents greater challenges than 2025, strong #cash generation is expected to keep most companies well-positioned, assuming #refinancing support. Companies like AYR Wellness Inc., Cannabist, and Jushi Holdings Inc. may have a tougher time convincing the market of their debt-carrying capacity. In contrast, holding $400M in cash in anticipation would be inefficient for companies like Cresco Labs, as those funds could better fuel growth. Refinancing is more than just #math— naturally it’s about financial strength and market confidence. I’m surprised, but not really, that it has fallen to a bunch of bankers to call out the financial facts in the Cannabis industry. There is a 44-page proposal that has been circulating in political circles in #sacramento since June as an amendment to Assembly Bill 2223, which was originally intended as new rules for hemp businesses. It’s also reportedly backed by Gov. Gavin Newsom. There has been a artificial split between hemp and cannabis. In 2018 hemp was legalize nationwide through the farm bill. That opened a loophole to sell intoxicating hemp products with virtually no oversight. For the past two years there has been an attempt to regulate the hemp industry at the federal level through a new farm bill. Last year the bill got pushed to this year and it looks like the bill will be pushed again to next year. Some states such as #california are working on their own bills to regulate hemp-derived intoxicating products. The new adamant if attached to AB 2223 would require intoxicating hemp products to be overseen by the Department of Cannabis Control, potentially overloading the office. It would open up regulated interstate cannabis commerce, but only for hemp products and not for state-legal cannabis products, setting a new legal precedent that cannabis farmers could be left out of. It would give interstate import and export exclusivity to cannabis distributors, artificially creating some winners in the cannabis trade while disadvantaging others. We need to work together and not have hemp and cannabis producers being pinned against each other. We need one set of rules for both. We need a system that consumer safety, and access is the top priority. A long, long time ago...way back in the #earlydays of California's Cannabis industry, there was an #outstanding event: The "Founder's Forum." Now it's back. The Return of the Founders Forum will provide a completely #different but highly #effective way to network and raise capital. ⚡ What made the Founder's Forum so unique: ➡ The event was free and invitation-only. ➡ Held on #1st Fridays monthly from 5pm-til late. ➡ #Winners who got funded, funded the next event. ➡ Uniquely held in a beach bar, no #shoes were required. ➡ There were no #presentations, nor any handouts nor slides. ➡ Unlike typical Cannabis conferences, it featured no stands or #booths. ➡ It was limited only to emerging markets founders, funders, and investors. In Part 1 of this series, we demonstrated how California’s plan to fight THC potency inflation by implementing a standardized method to test THC and other cannabinoids in flower did not have its intended effect: THC numbers for flower and pre-rolls are just as high as ever, just months after the policy was implemented. In Part 2, we explored some of the ways in which the standardized method, and any method for that matter, can be manipulated to provide less accurate but more favorable data (at least as it pertains to clients wanting higher THC numbers). We tested ourselves in the same way we test other labs, by pulling samples off the shelf that we had previously tested, to show that you can get consistency if you test it right the first time. We also discussed why these results fly in the face of ethical and impartial testing that we as testing labs are supposed to provide. THC inflation and lab fraud has become rampant in the cannabis industry. Labs around the country that were founded and headed by chemists with principles of scientific integrity are going out of business, or hanging on by a thread, because they are not willing to commit fraud.
